What is this? ZSG?
Here's a picture of a gearshift lever seen in a facelifted E60. Could this be ZSG? SMG IV?

sorry guys, it looks hideous, revolting. the classic auto gear knob is tonnes better looking than this flight simulator joystick gadget.
at least make it looks nicer like the m3 e46 or e60 m5 gear knob, please! |

The bmw e60/ (undercover new e class ) engineers must be really brave and stupid to facelift the classic gearknob for this geeky looking, misfit gadget.' why fix something that ain't broke?'

Just like all things that are new and radical- it takes a bit of getting used to. Just because we are so used to doing certains things a particular way doesn't mean that there isn't a better way. For all we know, it could be a better way of changing gears, or controlling operations. |

I read that it is not the SMG but rather a new generation electronicly controlled automatic six speed, to replace the Getrag and the current ZF. It(the new one) will be manufactured by ZF as well. To engage the lever is pushed up and there are no cogs anymore, its a bit like the 7 series currently.

As said before, its only partly the new stick
The M5 parts currently used will be replaced by proper parts when they are made You can see here the new X5 has a proper bottom piece

Looks like the one more of BMW's electronic controls that "return to center" like the turn signal stalk, this time for the Steptronic.
Definitely different, not sure it would be an improvement... |
