I tried to my use usb port in the glove box by simply plugging in my jump drive with songs loaded from my itunes and my idrive system says usb not connected. the jump drive is flashing like it is installed....the files are mp4's....is that why?

Looks like MP4 is not supported. Format your USB stick FAT32 and put a supported format on it. I understand that WMA Lossless is supported and seems the best route for high-quality playback. DBpoweramp converter is a great free software solution that can convert your music.
