Lackluster performance
Hi everyone,
I have a 2009 335i cabrio which I purchased new about three months ago. I started with the DCI and JB3 PnP and when that didn't give me the power I wanted I went ahead and put a HPF intercooler in and downpipes from BMS I think it was. Anyhow, I have tried every map on the JB3 and the difference is not considerably noticeable. When I go WOT it seems like something is holding it back and I'm not sure what it could be. I have the Diagnostic cable, but haven't spent much time investigating it's features other than to check for codes after the installs. Any suggestions? Tony |

just leave it on map 7 for a week and see how the car feels. if you dont get codes or limps means the car is fine. You feel a huge difference from map 0 to map 7 . are you sure that you are actually on the right map?

I feel a difference from 0 to 7 but it is by no means huge.
Doing the downpipes I had a friend actually working on them while I did the Short shift kit. Any chance he mislabelled the O2 sensors? Would it even run? When I go WOT there is a fair amount of lag - at least a one thousand one - before I feel boost - Would it make a difference to turn off the traction control? Thanks for the quick responses. Tony |

with your mods the car should be severely traction limited in the first two (maybe three?) gears. I don't want to sound condisending, but have you tried turning the traction control all the way off? It could be the traction control cutting throttle/applying brakes. I've heard other forum members complain about power delivery and had this been the problem.

Get a boost gauge (or log boost) to make sure you're hitting targeted boost and make sure you have no boost leaks from IC install.
Make sure the DCI is installed correctly. The black couplers should only be in a 1/2" and no more than a inch into cones or you'll be doing more harm than good. Press the other ends into the accordion type plastic intake tubes as far as possible so cones don't hit each other. That's the only thing I can think of that could be choking the engine at higher revs especially at WOT. Don't run any higher than Map 7 without higher than 93 octane either. To confirm you're making the power. Dyno it with baseline (stock map) and/or run it in the 1/4. You could try running Meth with a failsafe system next if you're still not happy with the power. Sorry gang for wasting your time, I just tried with traction control off and wheels break loose easily at 30 to 40mph in second gear with WOT. I never hit WOT in first, about 2/3 before wheel spin.
And can definately tell difference between Map 0 and 7 now, but no noticeable difference between 6 and 7 Tony |

no worries. If you're not used to the electronic nannies you may think there is something wrong with car because of them. I am getting an LSD installed soon and have heard it really cuts down on the interference of the DTC/DSC.
