Found a stray dog...
So after the football game yesterday my brother left the house and found a dog wandering around. It was shaking so he called to it and brought her home. We've been feeding her and such. I've posted on craigslist but so far no replies. We've even walked the dog around a few times hoping its owner would spot it. We've even went door to door around the neighborhood and ask if anyone knows who owns it.
It seems like a nice dog. We can't keep it because we have dogs of our own. So my question is: how long should we keep it before turning it over to the shelter? I would hate for it to have to go through a shelter but we just can't keep it here forever. One of our dogs went missing last time and someone took it in and fed him and posted it on CL. That's how we ended up finding him (suggested by a lady at the animal shelter). I was thinking of maybe posting up flyers tomorrow and if we don't get anything by tomorrow or Tuesday we will hand her over to a shelter. Suggestions? |

^ well my dad was walking it around this morning asking people and stuff. One of our neighbors liked it and took it in. However, this evening she brought her back because her husband wouldn't let her keep it. She gave it a bath and fed it today.
I feel kinda bad but I can't keep it around for long because I don't think she's spayed and our dogs are not neutered...Besides, we don't need another dog around... |

lol are you serious?
But below are pix of the dog. I couldn't find the flash so the pictures are a little horrible. It looks like a doberman pinscher puppy. Or maybe a mix of it and something else, not sure...maybe chihuahua? |

if posting a lost dog found sign, i might consider putting a generic sign instead of a picture and or type of dog in case a random person who isnt the owner may claim it as theirs? i dunno

There is always that risk. I would hate for a random person to claim the dog as theirs. I don't know if the owner is even looking for her right now.

my friend lost his dog for a few days and the person who found it had posted a craigslist ad saying they found a dog and then dropped it off at the shelter so maybe that's another option

It's not a daschund. Imagine a miniature doberman pinscher and that's exactly what she looks like. |

Lol she wouldn't sit still so I took what I could.
It's kinda strange. She keeps wanting to go outside- perhaps trying to find the way back home. I mean we walked her today hoping she remembers the way home but no dice. No one claimed her... |

I think you should keep her at your house for as long as possible BUT at least report this to the shelter because that is one of the first places her owner will check.
I'm not 100% but I would think the shelter would be more than happy if you fostered her for a few days.

pls dont turn her into a shelter. try to find someone willing to give her a good home, some shelters will put a animal down if they cant find them a home, as a fellow dog owner i hate shelters

If you go the shelter route, make sure it's a no-kill shelter.
