Heat Issues, Fan ON, Throttle on the floor and No Power---FIXED
Hi there
3 days ago while sitting at the lights my temp started going beyond 250* then the amber water tank light came on advising me of high engine temperature, I was 2 blocks away from home so I just kept it nice and slow and drove home, I shall note that 1) when I shifted to 3rd gear and tried to apply the throttle the car was hessitant, it didnt do anything it was as if the gas pedal was dead, that lasted only 2-3 seconds and then it started moving, 2) The fan came on and stayed on the whole time. The throttle hesitation was the same symptom that I had about 5 months ago and it was related to the Ignition coil, but the high temperature indication with its associated Water tank icon was new. from what I have seen on here and around and after calling my mechanic we both thought that either my Thermostat was going out or the good ol water pump. but after plugging my BT tool scan and looking at the water pump it had constant and continuous electrical current so i started to lean more torwards the thermostat. By the time I was done with the BT tool I decided to pump the hood to let the car cool down, thats when i noticed that at the end of the vent hose all the way to the right a small amount of steam was coming off, it took no more than a minimal pressure of my finger on the hose and it just started squirting coolant fluid out :/ I grabbed a roll of paper and tried to prevent the fluid from going everywhere, as soon as i tried to put the pappers underneath the vent hose it came off/broke apart. my mechanic told me that it was probably fatigued by the heat all these years. well, I cut the pipe to the point where the fluid was coming off, about an inch and a half and re attached it to the end. got on realoem.com and the part was $36.00, Vent pipe part#17127565094 Price:$36.08 I called my dealer and their price...$67, I asked the guy if he was willing to match the online price and he gave me 0 hard time, he just told me to print a copy of the online price...hmmmmm anyways, I just got the part today BUT for the last 2 days that I've been driving on my patched up, duct tape infused vent pipe I have had no problems whatsoever, everything was/is back to normal no temp spikes, no always on fan, no throttle hessitations I am about to de install the old vent pipe and its side hoses and put on the new one, to be on the safe side I will def vent the tank as per bentley manual. let me know if you have any questions, or additions. N54 sticker means N54 drug. Gives you a a nice high every time you use it, but comes at a cost. It drains your pockets with endless problems.
Mine was replaced last week. I had an untraceable leak that turned out to be water pump housing that would kind of open up at some temperature and just literally spray the antifreeze around. Pressure test wouldn't leak, but once the car reached some temperature, it would just start spraying and flood and wet the entire underside of the engine and make a nice green puddle on the ground once I pulled over. I had never seen anything like it, because it would also stop leaking as soon as I shut off. The hoses were sweating when put under pressure, but nothing that would cause any serious trouble. Since they were going to replace the expensive water pump I asked them to replace the hoses and the thermostat while replacing the pump since they are all cheap and I'd hate to have to have this done again just because some pipe or thermostat gave up on me.

I used a non-BMW worm clamp at this connection... no idea how the one-time-use BMW clamps are put on - special tool maybe. Same as your DIY here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=809818 The inside of the hose had a lot of yellow gunk... is that normal? I replaced my oil filter housing gaskets recently so it could be the residual oil mixed with coolant from before? Even though I did a coolant drain and refill? |

sorry to revive an old post, my just cracked..... 17127540127 and 17127565094 are the only parts i need correct? and can someone please help as in how to take the hose off? i'm having trouble taking it off, i dont know how the clamp works, and how to pull or push or clamp it, and since i'm a noob, do i need to watch out for coolant once i take off the two tube?
