When to change spark plugs on N54?
Ok, I did a search and found only a couple threads from other regions about when the proper time to change the plugs out is on the N54. So I want to pose the question to those in SoCal since climate and region do have a profound affect on spark plug length.
The reason I ask is I am going to be running the Cobb AP starting next week and I would like to do some pre and post dyno runs and logging on the car to make sure it is happy on pump gas since this car is my everyday driver. Currently the car runs great, no stumbles or hesitation that I notice in its completely stock form at just a little more than 50,000 miles. However, I know tunes are quick to expose faults like aging spark plugs by misfiring, which I do not want. What's everyone's though on this? Thanks in advance! |

If they really have 50k on them, you might as well order a set now. Never a bad thing to have a set on hand, and they aren't that expensive. You may or may not get misfires shortly after, but even if you don't you're probably not getting the best performance with that many miles on them.

At every service its shows Engine/powertrain computer/module checked , does that mean the car has probably had any updates and fuel pump/injectors checks? I am shocked, my car has no history of a fuel pump or injector service of any type. Does this mean I'm in the clear in regards to fuel pump issues? |

I don't know what they check when they do that. When I took mine in for a minor gasket leak, it came up under the recall bulletin. The service report for the pump and injectors was very specific about checking/replacing those parts.

It's a good idea to have fresh plugs when installing a tune. If nothing else it is good preventative maintenance as the thresholds and tolerances change once you start pushing the limits of the motor. I would do this inexpensive and quick project for peace of mind.

No, it was a mechatronic gasket or something for the transmission. Very minor. That was covered under warranty. The recall is for fuel pump and injectors only as far as I know, that's what came up under the recall while I was there.
