I was told it is a good idea to change my oil at 1500 miles
Since there could be filings/ debris from breaking in the turbo and such- is there any truth to this?
So far as I know, this car has no "break in" oil. All I was really told at the dealership is vary my speed for the first thousand miles- don't baby it, no warnings not to WOT.. nothing special. 2011 335 M-sport, now approaching 695 miles |

There are several schools of though on engine break-ins. I was told the worst thing to do is to go on a long highway drive holding rpms constant. I was advised to go throughout the RPM range but to not be bouncing off the rev-limiter. When I got my bike I think I lasted 250-500 miles before going "balls-out" haha... I just couldn't wait any longer. Although, my bike cost less than my motor

Google the Mike Miller schedule
If you really love your car you will do the fluids early .
I would say no later than 5k and every 7.5k there after for oil. but Mike says 1500 I think. |

You're going to have a million varying opinions.....
Only 3 series with a break in right now is the M3. However, If I was buying a brand new 335, or even a 328 (financed, not leased), I would. |

There are varying opinions on this. If you do a search there are countless threads on this topic. It really depends on how long you plan to keep the car. It will run fine doing nothing for 100k miles. If you plan to sell it before that, then you are only doing a favor to the next owner. I plan to keep mine until it stops running so I did the break in oil change at around 1200 miles, which is what the M3 calls for.

did you read the manual?
no WOT, no RPM above 4,500. vary your speed and try to use all gears evenly. Quote:

My dealer says just go with the maintenance plan.
I have 8k miles on my car. My first oil change looks to be around 13k miles.

If it makes you feel better, do it. It can't hurt anything by changing it early.

if you really want to change it, it cant possibly do any harm. A lot of people did not do the 1500 mile change though... nothing wrong with being too careful

For what it's worth, I did a 1200 mile oil and filter change after the break-in period. Simply for peace of mind. It definitely won't hurt.

I would ask, why is a 1,200 mile oil change REQUIRED on M cars, just so BMW can pay for an additional oil change out of their pockets?
What I was told by the service manager when I bought my car. "If I were you, and I purchased a 335i, purchased, not leased, I would change the oil at 1,500. That may be old school, but that's what I would do. If I leased the car? I wouldn't care, I would do it when the reminder turned on, it's not my car." So far I've paid for two oil changes, and they were $69.95 and $74. I was definitely willing to pay $74 and do it, I didn't care about the cost. If it were $130 and above, maybe I would have skipped it. Does it matter? there's a good chance it doesn't. But again, why is it required on M cars? |
