Holy shit man. Those are some shitty friends. I'm sure anyone reading your post will agree that it was them who scratched your car. $1000 deductible is high.. might as well go buy a CSL trunk and get it painted (it'd be less than $1000 for sure). If you need help with that, text me.

But why would anybody tear off your registration sticker? I don't get that part. Hope you get this sorted out, let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

First thought is does the apartment complex have security cameras? If so, go with that.

First thought on my end is filing a police report as soon as you realized what happened. My money is that they did it. I would call them and leave a message seeking payment for the damages and then calling the kids offices and explaining the situation to their bosses.

I know someone who called someone's work and got paid very fast.

Sounds like you got douchebag friends. They already admitted to throwing shit at someone else's car.

Damn! Why do people do this type of crap? IMO, confronting them is not gonna resolve the problem-- in fact, the situation could escalate. Also, I don't think the cops will come out to take prints for this type of incident, but you could still file a police report. Your best bet is to see if the complex has cameras like a poster suggested or ask around the complex to see someone saw anything, but since it happened late at night, I doubt there are witnesses. You could sue them in small claims court if you want, but I say just fix the car and choose your friends wisely.

they probably just wanted me to have to pay another like $83 for a new sticker..

Man, that's an angry key job. My car got keyed, my side view mirror smashed off with something, and my emblems got jacked. Called the cops, they came out, wrote some stuff down but wouldn't take any prints. No help at all. Definitely check if they have security camera's at the complex.

1) File Police Report
2) Get Estimate for Damages
3) Demand Payment for Damages
4) File Suit in Appropriate Court in your Jurisdiction Depending on Amount of Claim

And, obviously, don't be friends with awful people who damage the property of other's because they have the impulse control of a 6 year old.

Really sorry about your car. That's just terrible. I'd be devastated.

that sucks and condolences to you. I hate any kind of injustice being done so I read your post with passion.

here is my advice. YES REPORT THIS TO POLICE ASAP. you know, in california, what they did is FELONY VANDALISM AND FELONY BURGLARY. thats a serious crime.

KEEP THAT TEXT YOU RECEIVED. it clearly shows the contradictory statement.

next, dont (i know you probably wouldn't) wash your car. finger prints are invaluable in court. if i was you, i am going to get that thing fixed on their account AND put them in jail.

good luck and keep us posted.

they work at a bar, and they are really cool w/ their boss, so i don't know if calling the bar and telling the owner would do anything..the owner would probably side w/ them

I read your entire post and spent 5 minutes of thought processing.

There's actually a very good reason to believe that the David and Nick were not lying. The reason is that it would be way too easy to figure out who did it. It would be extremely stupid to retaliate somebody who knows exactly where you park on a daily basis, and possibly where you live.

I, too, have experienced somebody parking in my reserved spot. I, too, was enraged and thought about retaliation. However, the thought of retaliation dies quickly because my immediate thought is that it would be a very dumb move, since that person knows exactly where I will be parking the next day! What if that person is a serial killer, a gang member, a pyromaniac, an insane guy with a glock?

Easy to find out if they actually did it or not. Tell them you're going to call the police and take fingerprints, and see if you can get to see the surveilliance footage. If they did it, they'll admit it. If they still deny it, then I think the chances are someone else did it.

i see your point, but the thing is, they have done stuff to people's cars who have been parked in that spot. they have a track record of it and i'm pretty sure they were drunk/fucked up so they probably weren't thinking about that and just acted on impulse

if it were the person who owns the white car, as Sam believes, then why would that car retaliate on my car, thinking it was David's car and then park just a few spaces down? Wouldn't he want to park somewhere far, hidden?

If you were to retaliate on someone's car, would you park your car a few spaces down from it after the retaliation?

yeah, i'm not sure if the fingerprints would still be on my car, since it rained pretty hard last night down here in South OC. however, oil and water don't mix right? since most oils are nonpolar & water is polar. so the finger oil could still be on my car
