I think the 335is is 335 with sport susp, exhaust, engine perf kit at a discount. Porsche just did that with the 911GTS. Everyone does it at end of model time. Keeps sales up and uses up parts while new model is being readied. |

Just thought I'd share an update on the retrofit. A few things to keep in mind.
1. I've always driven the car in DS, both before and after the flash. 2. The car was fast before, it's fast now. 3. I'm pretty sure my car is quicker after I wash it, so perhaps I'm not the best gauge of these things...... Seriously, I'm noticing increased midrange punch. It sweeps through the tach more quickly than it did before from about 3K to redline. I'd be thrilled to see a before and after dyno to confirm what I'm feeling, nonetheless I'm confident that the difference is there. |

Well I inquired about this at my dealership and for more than a week they are still scratching their heads to figure out what the price for a retrofit on a 135i is or what and where this software tune even comes from I even sent them a link to the press release and they still can't figure it out. I am not really sure what more information to feed to send them in the right direction.

I just ordered a 2011 335xi. They quoted me $1500 with the tune and grills installed. WIth what is out there in the market, IMHO its not worth it for 20bhp..

not worth it for 20bhp alone, but owners who don't want to risk warranty coverage on an aftermarket tune are getting more out of it than just the 20bhp

I even gave them the part # posted here by someone who has installed the retrofit on a 335i and they still scratched their heads. |

So what am I supposed to do since I want to buy this thing LOL. This is the first time in my life where I am actively trying to buy something and the people responsible for selling it don't know the price O__o. Is it still 'too early' to be asking dealerships for this, or is it a common thing with BMW to not know about these after-the-fact kind of purchases? This is my first bmw, so I don't know much about how they run their business.

My guess... BMW ran into difficulties introducing it in the USA because we are a litigious country. It's anybody's guess if the option will actually make it here. I've never seen this happen with BMW before. Mercedes ran into something similar in the past. They offered a full size spare tire carrier on the ML-class worldwide, but had to pull it off the shelves in the US because the thing didn't pass the 5mph bumper test. The thing was mounted outside the rear hatch, very close to the back of the 3rd row seat. Another option they had to pull out was the fog lights on the early MLs. It was integrated with the head lights, and since it was above 42 in (or something like that) from the ground, it wouldn't pass US requirements. |

Insert foot in mouth what?
This is INTRO PRICING. Barely anyone has had this installed yet. Above we were referencing BMW giving it away FOR FREE or HEAVILY DISCOUNTED, in the FUTURE. Nice try though "To coincide with this exciting announcement of two new Power Kit versions, BMW is offering a special introductory price on all Power Kits from now until the end of 2011!" Guess some people just can't follow a conversation Look forward to your reply, Pam.

I asked my "Canadian" dealer yest. He said that the price in Canada is $3000!!
I replied to his email and asked him if I could drive over the border and get it installed...He said that I could and it would not void my warranty...he then said of course we would like your business and he'll an eye out for it to change..didnt mention it before.. Can't believe the price diff..

Just because something that once was an option is now standard in NO WAY implies it is now free, its cost has just been rolled into the MSRP. With your reasoning Microsoft has no standing to sell its OS for ~$100, because it cost them less than $1 to cut (or support the download) of the OS. Guess what MS gets this hefty premium because 1) The product it has market value & 2) MS is a business that needs to recoup its development ( & SG&A costs) |

You have zero reading comprehension. You make up stuff and then argue against it. Who said anything about MSFT? Make all the strawman you want. Not biting. |

No you can't follow the conversation.
If BMW decides the 2012 models all have the "tune" as a standard option that doesn't imply it is now FREE. It is just rolled into their cost model. Airbags aren't free, standard paint isn't free, standard sunroofs aren't free, don't you get this? 2nd: And regardless of what is "standard" on a new model no way is BMW going upgrade past customers without extracting both its cost and a profit.
