As I thought - Will use my win7 license I have now then. Shame as was looking forward to learning and playing with VM's.

Maybe I have missed somting, but why are you after putting a VM on it then? All you want is a media server and you can always Remote desktop in, if you want to remote admin it?
Just wanted to play/learn really.

Yep - came to access it one day through PS3(twonky) no access - tried QNAP finder - wouldn't find it - a lot of fiddling and swearing later - RMA.

Did you loose much data then?

You can always play with VMs on top of Win 7 (Virtual box as suggested), still have a good play, its just not on bare metal.

That's what I do. Great way to learn. I don't need any of my virtual servers running in a live network, just locally (local network) for testing and as a secondary backup.

Yep, its a good way to install those apps you dont want to test on your main build.

I am having to use a Win 7 VM for my win apps with this darn Mac

What will you be using it for, key tasks, may I ask? If you're a bit like me, then you've probably over bought for the sheer excitement and don't really need most of it. lol.

It's going to be a replacement for my nas and my home theater pc. It will also be used for internet access etc. It will feed media to PS3 - XBox - a Joggler and other PC's. Also hoping to setup a website on it at some point.

The TS-210 would struggle feeding more than 2 devices at the same time, so micro-pc good option. But then the Qnap is way more power efficient, horses for courses I suppose!

Interested to see how you get on Paul once you have it up and running

Couldn't say no to the microserver - £100 cashback! - Will be cheaper than my 210 and I paid well under the odds for that. Took the plunge and bought WHS11 for it £40 - 8GB ram on order too.
