320d hybrid turbo intercooler etc?
Right, I'm bored now, my E90 320d has been good to me but the power is now not enough for me.
It is an '05 163 model and has been remapped to 197bhp and 300lb/ft but I want more! Has anyone stumbled across anyone who can do a hybrid turbo for it, or anything as an upgrade? Also, has anyone used the CA-Automotive intercooler? it looks like a nice bit of kit but obviously before parting with the cash I'd like some reviews. And finally, any pointers for other upgrades? EGR delete seems common on VAG engines, will it work effectively on my engine? and what about a decat and exhaust system? anyone tried it? (I know i'd be better off getting a proper engine, but the car is financed and I can't get rid for ages yet)

Ok, hybrid turbo is sorted
Just need opinions on the IC now and ideas on what to do with the exhaust. Is there anything else I'd need? injectors? bigger AFM? any of that sort of stuff?

Robin you keeping it now? I am not sure why but generally on these forums no one goes any further than a map.
D3 runs a 330 compressor side and 330d intercooler and injectors. Was talking to warren about putting a bigger front mount on mine and maybe a hybrid. |

I actually can't believe there's no replies!
Fad, yes I'm keeping it for a while now Turns out the intercooler I was condsidering is listed wrongly so it'll have to be a bespoke install now...

I can't find any info on the BMWP one and I don't think it's available seperately?
I'll see if I can get a 320d and 330d one to compare tomorrow

I recon custom IC ( dont know price in GB but in PL quite cheap ) , custom 2.5 exhaust, 330d injectors, shorter diff, maybe sport air filter ( Pipercross, K&N ) good oil ( motul FTMFW) and new map program and you should gain some extra power and sound

I have measurements for the 320d intercooler now but can't get hold of a 330d one to compare
Also, been recommended new injectors Bosch number 0445110030 but can't find any info on flow rates to be sure they're better than our 0445110261s Hurdles everywhere!

If it can further reduce the intake air temperature giving a greater mass of oxygen it should be like driving in the morning all day. Plus even more available power for overtaking. I would like to know how much cooler the intake temperature would be from a retro fit intercooler and also how much better the air flow rate would be. |

Found some info on the 330d intercooler.
510 x 100 x 100 Standard one is 510 x 85 x 100 So... The 330d one is 17% bigger. Still no into on injector flow rates

my forge ic saw rolling road gains of between 10 and 12 hp and that was during the winter when the benefits of an upgraded ic aren't as impressive as in the summer..

as for the hybrid turbo idea, its possible. ive been talking to my local subaru motorsport tuner who knows alot about turbos, and is sure there are options that could be looked at for the 320d. when the funds allow we'll be looking at a ball bearing turbo hybrid first but there will be some testing to be completed before i have any results to share

Thanks for that good to know its substancially bigger than stock. Quite glad you have come out of the woodwork as no one seems to tune the M54/N54 past a remap! Robin whats the time scale on this as I recal the car being quite ill when I last saw it lol! |

Just to add.. Be very careful about using a 320d mitsu turbo as they are cack.
Go for a 07 onwards garrett one or pick one from a different configuration totally. The standard turbo can't handle standard usage for that long letalone when pushed as hard as you plan. NB. The vast majority of people realise there's little point with excessive tuning of a 320d and simply save the pennies to get themselves a 330/335 hence the quietness.

Mine has done 125k and it's still working, sort of. 65k of that is remapped!
I had considered the garret unit but unless I'm mistaken it's not an electronic actuator unit?
