[Dallas] New BMW Owner - Coding Cable Arrived
So my cable arrived from Hong Kong, finally, and I'm getting ready to install the software on my laptop. Was going to see if any BMW 335i owners in Dallas have any experience in coding. Can probably figure it out myself, as I do software engineering for a living, but would prefer to have someone make sure I'm not screwing anything up my first time.

Welcome man! There's a few people on the boards that do some coding. Off the top of my head I know that Imperator and Advan (I think) both have some experience.

Cool, good to know there are some locals. The online How-Tos are pretty good, and I've done a lot of research, but I still think I might want someone with experience there with me just to tell me to stop if I'm about to do something incorrectly. I'm going to install the software on my computer, first, and see how that goes. If the install goes well, and the software UI seems pretty simple/straightforward, I may swing to do it solo.

Installing software is the most difficult part (and it's not hard). The diy is pretty straight forward. Plus you're a programmer /developer it should be cake!

Okay, so the software install went great. I've refrained from hooking up to my car for the moment. I have a question before I begin the process. My car is a 2011 335i (e90 N55). I'm curious as to what code I should try first. I have some in mind that I want to do, assuming my car supports them, and I have access to the spreadsheet. What I want is to ensure that my first coding is an easy one, and that my car supports it, so that way I can actually get more of a feel for the software and have less to worry about troubleshooting wise.
One I considered is the Fob windows. Currently, I can hold unlock and open all the windows on the car. I'm assuming that the code to hold the lock button and close all the windows would also be supported/applicable to my car? If this is the case, would this be a good one to start with? Very low complication and obviously an easy one to test afterwards. If not the Fob windows, I am open to recommendations. I do know that I do not want to try the chirp code, but that is mainly because I need to determine if my car has the hardware for the chirp or not. Thanks in advanced. |
