The 335i part of the shaft going to the gearbox is female too (near number 5 upper pict) So now we need a double male piece similar to near number 8 upper to join both together, or maybe transform the M3 or the 335i part of the shaft in male... We realy need pictures of GeorgeSmooth to understand how to do it. My M3 LSD is sitting in my garage for one year now |

did this topic have some development? i would like to do the swap and will find the dct diff, сv axles and driveshaft no prob, but still don't understand how those parts connect. i would rather fabricate the transmissionhub adapter, than shorten the driveshaft...

Hi Guys
i am new in this post and call from germany? sorry about my english it is not so good Just get the complete rear achs with side shaft, differential brakes... but dont have the driveshaft. few weeks ago we change the differential from a bmw wich has a different head for the driveshaft. we change the old head to the new head, now the driveshaft fits to the car. maybe i can put the head from the 335ia to the m3 differential? is it possibel? a new driveshaft is very expensive thanks kayhan from germany |

This thread got lost somewhere...it was never fully documented with all the required info for the conversion. It would be great if you (or someone) could put together a pictorial guide with part numbers and customization required?

great post! I had done some measuring and looked at photos, figured it would all fit and just now stumbled across this post. I much prefer the I6 motor, too bad they did not see fit to use an LSD and beefy axles on these cars from the factory!

It might be cheaper but it looks like there is some custom work involved, wich takes it above the $ point for the after market options or am I missing somthing

The advantage in my books is that you get to use the beefier M3 driveshafts. As mentioned before I had the Quaife installed prior to the M3 diff and I do not notice any differences between the two.

@GeorgeSmooth
i read you have a 335i with Automatik Transmission. Did you change the axle ratio too?My 335ia has i think 3,46 and the m3 diff from DCT dubble clutch has 3,15. that was longer then mine. i dont want to lose acceleration someone in germany tell me that its possible to change the ratio. but at first i have to know how it will work with the driveshaft. if the the connection from the diff is realy beafier than we have to change the driveshaft. hmmmm |

For general information, a good drive shaft shop can shorten a drive shaft and re-balance it in a matter of minutes (worth of work) and it is not very expensive.
Back in the day, we would have them fabricate new shafts, using the existing ends and it was never a problem. These guys do a lot more work with trucks and equipment, but the process is exactly the same, the shaft has to be straight and balanced to run smoothly. |

Wow I am suprised to find this thread. This is exactly what I am going to tackle soon. However I wont be salvaging parts.
Looking to swap out a 2011 DCT E92 335is final drive for a 2011 DCT E92N M3 final drive The M3 driveshaft, DCT transmission output flang, right and left output shafts are going to supliment the swap. I am going to also get the drive flang hubs just in case also. This should be easier as the DCT transmission is the same |
