E92 upgrade F10 auto shift knob (aftermarket part) with working LED light
Found this toy over the weekend, it's an aftermarket F10 Auto shift knob, easy installation only need to connect 2 connectors to synchronize with the shift indicators. Please see the youtube video for demo and below images for wiring. I do like the look of this F10 style shift knob, but with its' shape and you actually have to press the “button” behind the knob, it does feel a bit awkward when your shift. Maybe I'll get used to it. Last edited by yoshing; 02-06-2012 at 08:04 AM.. Reason: duplicated youtube link |

You should replace the stock shift plate with a Manual plate and boot since you don't need the PRND indicators off the shifter anymore. The Manual plate fits the Auto shift opening.

None at all. I've done it with an SMG modded shifter. It's a direct swap and not very expensive at all, (Manual Shift boot). There was a custom harness made for this application to delete the external display and direct the signal to the shifter. With what you have, worst case you could just tuck the external display out of the way inside the shift tunnel.

Since you're a modder, you may be interested in the LCI update for the Shift Paddles. (See pic.) This is a really nice change and I use the Paddles more this way than I did the pre-LCI versions for some reason.

There's no Cheap option, but this is the set I bought. These guys are absolutely fantastic in support. I had a little problem and they sent me pictures and a video on how to correct it. They do the rewiring for a small up-charge.

They aren't plug and play. They won't work without modifying the wiring.

So, I just did it today and like you hated the redundant shift display so used an OEM boot and trim from a 335i off of Ebay. Like it a lot better

Reviving this old thread. Just ordered the 2014 updated shifter from bimmian. All good. Now, for the plate delete, just get a manual shift boot? The manual will fill the entire space I believe. Only issue is that it seems most of these manual boots are just the boot, not the plastic tray that fits into the center console. Wonder if I can't just use my current plastic tray and wrap the bot around it, thus avoiding the necessity of dealing with the current shifter display embedded in the tray, if that makes sense. The boot will just cover it. Other option is to just put a piece of black non-gloss vinyl wrap over the current display portion.
