Regular Maintenance

Call me stupid if you most, but being that I'm only a 19 year old, I'm honestly confused on what the whole maintenance thing is. I have a 2007 BMW 328i (E90). When I got the car upon starting the car the dash said 16000 and has been working its way down ever since. The sales associate who sold me the car told me that when it gets down to like 100-200 to take it in. But why? Any information without slamming me would be greatly appreciated.

if you have iDrive, you can go into the menus and see what needs to be done to the car and when.

That specific number that ur looking at like I said I believe is for the oil change.

Now if you're asking for the other things they do (filter changes, etc..) someone that does their own service can answer that for you. I just take my car to the dealer and pick it up when its done lol

If your car came with a manual take a moment and read it, if you don't have a manual look on this link below and you most likely will find one in a PDF. In most cases you get your manuals from BMW's web site as well.

They drain your oil, replace the filter, replace the oil, replace sparks if needed- and generally perform maintenance.

Cannot tell you how important changing your oil is when the car asks- last thing you want is a blown turbo like I had- live, learn and teach

If you have never owned a car before

You need to take a look at what has been considered average maintenance for any car. Google Mike Miller BMW for the old school maintenance schedule this is more typical of what a car should get for long term health. Also there is a one year limit on oil changes it should not go longer than that. This fact has been kind of hidden in a smoke screen do to the Free Maintenance program which actually does cover this but is not talked about very loudly by the computer recall crowd both at the dealership and on the boards. Indeed there are a lot of people that aren't even aware they are entitled to it or its in the warranty manual.(page 4)
Most people of the old school ilk will change there oil at 7500 miles or less this is even more critical on a turbo that runs at higher temps and is extra hard on oil.

Your car should have also come with a "Warranty/Service" manual in which the recommended BMW service schedule is explained.
