Water pump retails at £500 and labour is approx £150 inc coolant from a indy, so £650 all in..........not the end of the world cost wise, more of a pain when it leaves u stranded roadside.
if i was actually worried about the problems myself would never had bought a high miler and yes too many people seem to make a big issue out of problems with the 335i........all cars have issues.
mate you get all sort of cars failing at all sort of mileage!! Even a brand new car can failed not just bmw not just 335i. if you complain about the running cost of buying a 140k mile car which has a higher chance of failing then buy a KIA with 7 year warranty !!

Do you have a pic of the water pump? I didn't see this thread the first time around but I did a quick search just now and can see 335i water pumps advertised for sub £100!

Just wondering if there is more than one water pump in a 335i.

That part is incorrect, it lists the same part number for all petrol BMWs but the 335i has a different water pump to all the other ones. The proper part is about £390 from Bmminiparts.

Plenty of stories of humans failing long before the end of the morning commute.
Usually they go just before the car does - weird but must be chain reaction.
Either way they are just plain unreliable. I'll never touch one again.

I aint complaining, just stating that if it does go its a pain as it can leave u stranded.......like many other things that can go wrong with modern cars.
I've had many bmw's from the early e30'sports to recent e46 m3's etc and owned them for over the last 10yrs now and have never really been put off bmw's with high miles as at one time they would easily do well over 200k+ miles without any issues and buy a car on condition not mileage.
i was just stating my expierience and also that the part has been replaced by a new design and that its not a £100 water pump u can just buy from your local motor factors.

.................and BTW i did not even know KIA did a 7 year warranty............have u been looking at them yourself lol

Yeh, i seen them on ebay also but they were completely different.
BMWmini parts were cheaper but i by around 40 quid than what i paid but couldn't be arsed to wait around for delivery so bought it same day from dealers.

True............not belts etc and a 2 hrs job if done by someone whos done it before.
Also needs to be bled properly using the diagnostic machine.

on older cars the pumps would start to whine before the'd pack up, so u get some warning.

Did u get stranded mate or were u able to get home?

Can understand how pissed u must be and if stranded u would be even more pee'd!
This was what i meant orginally.......mine went at 140k, approx 100k miles more than yours and read up of people who had theress fail at less than 20k!
The new pump is a better redisgned pump made by continental and should be a lot more realiable.
People on here were saying u take a risk buying a car on high miles but this shows that same things can pack up on a car with less tha qtr the miles..........just luck to some degree.

I only work 10 miles away so I was able to bring it back in the afternoon. The car rested while I was away. All this week I been so pissed about this. My warranty just got over 2 months ago. I have exactly 39450 miles on the car and feel this is not acceptable even if it is a wearable item. For god sake I haven't even replaced the rotors or pads yet (both are due in 10K) miles. I drive hard but rarely. I am so pissed and I guess fork out the money.

BMW has been sending me marketing mail for year and f#@K them. I do not mind spending the money but waterpump on car failing at 40k is shit
