I just wanted to know if any of you have purchased an extended warranty or highly recommend it. You read a lot of horror stories on the amount of repairs one has had to pay and wishing they had extended warranty. On the other end, some have never purchased extended warranty and have had very little issues.

I still have mine till May 2013... Piece of mind in my opinion but no extra cost as I got a CPO for a ridiculous price. Currently at 57,000km fyi

i was told for easy care, if you purchase before 40,000kms it will be a lot cheaper then purchasing later on... Ive got one on my cayenne and my last trip in to the dealer was a 4k fix and it was all electrical not even mechanical yet.... i can only imagine what it will cost if anything goes wrong with the drivetrain... good thing i have the extended care. =D

To put it in another perspective, extended warranties are put in place to make profit. They probably figure that only 20%-30% of the vehicles will come in for extended warranty service ... my guess. If the percentages were much higher, they would be losing money.

I bought a certified with low mileage at a premium for the piece of mind. Modded a bit so some of that is wasted. I'm 50/50 if I'd import a car in the future and use the $5K+ savings as a repair slush fund. Got a 328 as well to avoid the 335 issues, they are really ranked so poorly by consumer reports. Crazy enough so are the A4 and C series Benz; the most popular cars on the road.
In summary I actually got a longer warranty than I would have buying new. Good til 2014 Last edited by Fozzy; 05-25-2012 at 02:41 PM.. |

MY 2011 and up .. the extended warranty is offered by BMW.
For MY's 2010 and earlier, BMW offers it through a 3rd party. The 3rd party also handles coverage for a lot of the other big car manufacturers. The price is determined as to how many km's you have on your car and the duration you want to be covered. For the most part, it is a money grab. They have an idea as to the percentage of vehicles coming in for repair.. the rest is profit for them on the vehicle that don't need repair. |

Thing is, one of their clauses states that warranty will be void if you make any changes to the car.... Since signing up for it, I went a little loco on mods (this forum is the blame), so should something serious happen - I am a little worried that they'll push back on covering it.........

I don't understand ... your original manufacturer's warranty expires in a few days??? Why not bring it now and get your wastegate/turbo issues checked out at least?
