Have you tried lowering the Jehnert's HP filter? I'm presently using 40 Hz (24 dB/oct) and am really happy with the sound. As a point of reference, the gains of my HD600/4 are set to min for the Jehnerts and to my Morel HO IIs. Voltage input to the amp is set to "low". System is HiFi based, installed in an E82.

Jehnert HP Filter
E30 Racer - No, my Jehnerts have no HP filter, so they run with whatever the JL amp puts out, up to 200 Hz anyway. It looks like the Jehnerts in the BMW enclosures are 3 dB down at 60 or 70 Hz anyway, so whatever you cutoff at 40 Hz and 24 dB/octave will not affect the sound anyway. But it will protect the Jehnert underseat mid-woofers.
Is the HP filter that you used supplied by Jehnert and who did you purchase it from? I have to say that if I set the JL amplifier sensitivity to minimums for both my HOII speakers and the Jehnert midwoofers, that the Jehnerts would be inaudible in comparison to the HOIIs. I have to push the Jehnerts a bit to get good bass response. That being said, when pushed they sound great. |

I am friends with the owner of Skar audio which is a new car audio company, u can check them out on Facebook or at skaraudio.com and they are also on many car audio forums as well. I'm trying to have the owner kevin come out with a 4" component set that would fit in our cars. I've come up with many designs and idea which involve using some high quality materials like Lightweight Neodymium Magnet which would help with mounting depth in order to fit our doors without hitting the window. How many of you guys would be interested in these component sets. If we can have a huge number of people interested I think we can persuade him into producing them. Also I'm sure we can work out a nice pre-order price for the forum members. If we get enough people interested we will work on some prototypes and and test them in my car and put up some videos and specs before we actually come up with a final product and it would take about 3-4 months to be produced. Thanks for your time and leave some feed back and let me know what you guys think of the idea.....
Ps: check out the website and Facebook page, also Skar audio is all over YouTube.... Link - http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...7#post12564997

There are already 4's that fit but
The selection of 4's for the e92 coupe are more limited because of the even thinner doors. What would be nice is a lower door panel that replaces the map holder that accommodates larger speaker. Yes I know Jehnert makes a whole panel.(I think its a whole panel)
Focals, Jehnerts and BSW's even fit in the Coupe. |

Maybe 3-4 months to be US Soil landed, but to be produced ? I am sure his Korea build house is Much faster than that or they would be out of business already.

I can tell that most of you have larger audio upgrade budgets than I do, but does anyone have sugestions for me to get better sound from my base level audio system without splurging on an amp and a separate subwoofer?
I have the professional nav system but just the base stereo, unfortunately. Thanks. |

That was actually pretty uncommon in the US, only offered for about 18 months or so, so it's worth asking. --- The other data point: What's your budget? --- And a comment: You're in the speaker's thread. That means you have sort of decided what you want to upgrade (the speakers) but if you really have the base system (again, that's unusual) you'll have to start with a way to de-equalize and better amplify it, before any new speakers make sense. Some of the stickie threads will give you more details.

How about this sub/woofer for the underseats: Dayton Audio NS210-44 8" Neodymium Low-Profile DVC Subwoofer? Looks like it'd be an easier fit than the Morels. If I blow a Jehnert I might try one. Hell, at $99 I might try fitting one for kicks and grins.

With that budget, there is nothing meaningful that you can do north of 200Hz. You may however be able to add a sub and amp for $300 if you do everything yourself.

For what it's worth, I have a pair of 1 month old underseat subs with spacers and connectors in their original boxes ready to go. These are the SWS 8xi.

-- To the OP: If I were in your shoes, I'd not expect anything to help me for $300 BUT I would keep my eyes open for the following (in this order): 1. JBL MS-8 or equivalent: This will de-eq the head unit and have better amplification than you have now. You'll still have crappy speakers but it's a step. 2. Someone's used H/K/Logic 7 speaker set. These are not the most awesome speakers but far better than what you have -- and will fit pretty good (perhaps with some modifications for placing the tweaters in the windows and the larger underseat woofers under the seat. Heck even a used set of the hifi speakers would be a nice step up for you (but remember step 1 first -- you need a way to de-eq the head unit output, handle speaker level signals, and amplify them). 3. When rolling in cash (>$1k) consider even better speakers, and dedicated amplification. Lots of good ideas in this thread -- including Sid's SWS underseat speakers (though I'm not sure if you need more than just spacers, given what you have right now.) --- Bottom line, for $300, I'm not sure there's something meaningful you can do with the base system. The one suggestion to add an outboard amp and sub is not bad, if you want a bunch more bass -- and don't mind poor midrange and non existent highs. Depending on the music you listen to, that might be a nice step up. But it will be a DIY, budget gear, kind of set up -- and in my opinion does not solve the main problem with the base system, which is too little power, too little range in the existing speakers, etc.
