You guys are right i know i can just move it back. I actually asked the guy that im simply moving it, not splicing and he insisted it would invalidate it! Made me laugh.
But im definately doing it today then adding a dummy port when it arrives |

I got thought and I'm told my 2006 model is unaffected ???
How true is this? Anyone with a 2006 been told any different? I passed the number onto my dad who is also an e90 owner, 2008 and they've registered his details to pass to our local dealer to arrange a software upgrade in the next couple if weeks. Concerned I'm being brushed off......best move the port. |

Had my car in at the dealers today getting a new idrive button and the service manager asked me if I had seen Watchdog. Told him I missed it but know all about the problem with forums etc.
He said his phone has been ringing all day with people asking questions about this. He has been instructed to tell customers that they should expect a recall within four weeks. He did point out that when the car was initially sold this issue was not a problem but technology being what it is today then this is now an issue. He did say that no doubt in the future this will probably happen with the new F 3 series in a few years time. Guess he has a point... |

Just rang BMW now and got through straight away.
Anyway, she took my details and told me that my local dealer will be in contact within the next 8 weeks for the "quality advancement device". Just out of curiosity, I asked her about cars older than 5 years, and she said that only cars from 07 are going to be looked at by BMW. Not sure if that is E60/61 specific or for all models. So hopefully should hear something back within the next 8 weeks from my local dealer. |

so whats the deal with earlier cars.. they said in their press announcement that they are only doing cars from 2007-2011
EDIT: just spoke to someone on the phone, who assured me that cars pre-2007 are not affected, and use a different software setup, therefore are not vulnerable to the key programming theft measures. Why am I not convinced? |

It seems like there's confusion at BMW as to whether the upgrade is mechanical or software, because a quality advancement device doesn't sound much life a software upgade, I reckon they're going to give us all a crook-lock

I Just got through as well and they confirmed that only cars registered after march 2007 are effected, i insisted that i do not want take the chance in case bmw decide to include 2006 as well, so she took details and agreed to pass on to sytner.
Funny how they all of a sudden have a late hour call center open to deal with the "non existent" problem |

Please be assured that your comments have been noted by ourselves and I am sorry to read that you remain dissatisfied with this situation. I can only reiterate that currently this situation is being investigated. With regard to your enquiry as to whether you can reject the car; I can advise that we, BMW UK, believe that the car is fit for purpose and that we would not support the rejection of the car under these circumstances. With regard to moving the OPD port; I can advise that we, BMW UK, would not recommend this but it is of course your personal decision as to whether you choose to go ahead with this. I can confirm that the warranty on the car would not be invalidated under these circumstances, unless a fault arose as a direct result of the modification. I am sorry that you have had further cause to contact us under such circumstances. Yours sincerely, BMW UK Harkan Suleyman Customer Service Manager B1-UK-Z-2 |
