Suncream Warning!
I know it's September and it's getting fucking cold outside already, but I thought this was worth sharing...
Pretty much every bottle of suncream you can buy says to reapply after swimming, the inference being that even though it's absorbed by the skin, the cream will wash off and you'll lose the protection. I call bullshit on that. I took the family on holiday nearly 2 months ago, and the car has been washed regularly since then. Look what's STILL showing all over the place: Luckily it's getting towards the time of year where the car gets its winter detail, so they'll polish out, but I'm suddenly not so worried about reapplying suncream

Shit!
Have you tried to polish it out? It's not damaged the paint has it? Just won't come off?

It's just a slimy residue. I only know what it is because my brother had EXACTLY the same thinig on his car and thought he had gloss paint on his bootlid. Very quick once over with SRP shifted his no problem, so I'm not too bothered for another couple of weeks.
Nice reminder of happy kids

I wouldnt be too confident if I was you that it will polish out. I had a phantom black Audi two years ago that looked EXACTLY like your pics.
RESPRAY was the only fix possible.

I wasnt kidding... 100% truth.... half the car (drivers side) had to be resprayed. Whilst it was only a few smears on the doors... matching that metallic pearl paint is near impossible for 'patch fixes'... so a half-car respray was required.
I wish you luck... but I am not confident.

I had a few small handprints over my old V70, lesson 1 don't let's apply their own suncream, in fact scrap that, just keep them away from cars period!
I polished by hand several times with AG SRP which is mildly abrasive, eventually I got rid of the marks, though it probably took a few hours over several months.... The nano particles I'd read are responsible. I now have a Flex DA and I would imagine a light cutting polish should effectively remedy the situation quite quickly, but then of course you can never rush a job like this. Good luck |

SRP and a healthy dollop of elbow grease saved the day
Detail now postponed until I've got a full day and I'll get it all sealed again. Thank fuck for that

A mate of mine had a similar problem with his Le Mans blue tourer. Took a little bit of polishing out, but nothing too major.

Very useful thread. Both our cars are like this but I've not been arsed to do anything about it. Might have to make a call to get it sorted asap.
