idrive control knob failure
I've experienced a failure of the idrive controller knob.
I can't get it to function when I press it, like you do when you select an item on a menu. The controller works fine when you rotate it, flip it left or right and fore and aft. But when you press down to select something, it doesn't respond. This began as a intermittant problem a week or two ago where every now and then, I'd have to press it two or 3 times to select an item. But as of last night, it's gone completely non-functional - no amount of pressing the controller will yield any results. The controller feels normal in operation, there's nothing to suggest that something is broken inside the controller unit itself. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I was sort of hoping this is software and some sort of return to default settings or reset would help but I'm not aware of any. Except for this, the car has been simply superb. 15,000km in 3 and a half months, and just loving it. Thanks for any help.

Take it to the dealership. It's still under warranty. Sounds like the control box is flaking out. In the meantime, you can use voice control for most day-to-day operation.

Sounds like an easy fix and a trip to the dealer.

After about 4 days of being inoperable, it works again. Completely restored. I never did anything except keep trying it from time to time.
Last night it awoke - actually seems faster than before. This is kinda sounding like some sort of software issue to me.

Press and hold the 2 eject buttons and the volume button all at the same time. Try that if it happens again. If it keeps doing that, then you should take it to the dealer.

my idrive button no longer works?!?! i reset as FrankoQ provided, but still non-functional! rotates fine, but i can't select a thing...and my dealer can't take me (with a loaner) until next year! how frustrating over Xmas.
Anyone else experience this problem, what did the dealer do to fix? Hopefully they will update my software too.

My dealer is replacing iDrive parts including the iDrive knob, they are also updating my software to their latest release. Fortunately they gave me a brand new 535xi to troll around in while my 335i is being fixed/updated.
