e93 335d
hi. i have read this somewhere ages ago, but forgot the main reason.
why didnt bmw make a e93 335d is it due to the chassis not being able to handle the torque. i wished they did, would have definitely bought one thanks sive |

Would be interesting to know. Personally I am glad they didn't make one though.
I am bewildered as to why people spend £40k odd on diesel convertibles. It's not like they need the petrol money when the car is so expensive in the first place. The engine noise is part of the experience of a convertible for me. |

But we are performance petrol heads mate, hence why we don't have heavy convertibles.. Generally speaking a diesel convertible driver was the "looks" and an economic motor.. That is it.

Sure but if you have £40k to spend you are not short of cash. Although of course everyone is just financed up to the eyeballs these days any way so they probably can't actually afford the car which is why they need the low running costs.

Beats me why anybody would buy a D vert too :S
A 330d/335d at least has plenty of go, but 320d vert? If I was ever to want a vert, it would have to be M3 / 335i or not at all. |

Because they don't care about performance that's why they buy an e93 320d!
They like the look of the car and don't give a shit how it drives so long as economy is good..

Nothing wrong with the 320d for cranking out motorway miles. Bit of a pointless convertible though? If you're going to show off, then you gotta show off right :P
Long motorway journeys and convertibles aren't a great mix with the English weather either. |

Never driven a 320d but if I was after a more economical 3 series it would certainly be my choice. I've seen plenty of them ragging it along the M11 and they look plenty fast enough to me.

I think a lot of it comes down to cost. Have you seen how much cheaper a 320d is?
Some people just want a "nice convertible" but cant justify paying loads more out just for a bigger engine when the car looks identically the same. Either that or their budget just cant stretch that far even if they wanted it. |

+ a cab is 200+kg heavier than a coupe,so a 335D cab would be a bit of a lard arse, with snail like performance in comparison to quite a few cars within the whole 3er range.

A lot of shit in this thread makes no sense at all mate. Suggesting that people have enough money to buy a 335d very makes them too rich to care about economy? Lol@you! That's akin to suggesting the 640d shouldn't exist then?
As suggested, it seems that the only logical reason is something to do with limits of torque or something. Maybe... Bt then it might just be the market. If anyone honestly thinks that their 335 or 330 makes them a better person or somehow higher in stature than anyone with a 4 pot, then you need a good shoeing in my opinion to help you get over yourself. Your insecurities really need dealt with quite urgently if that's your attitude!

No not at all mate!
It's just a general comment. My last car was a 20d and my next might be a 20d. It just grips my shit when people compare themselves with the size of their engines and put down others who don't have as many cc or turbos at whatever. Very sad and verging on a bit chav. People just buy what they want/need generally.

Whats with all the animosity guys? Chill. Arguing about engine size is silly.
What we should be arguing about is tailgaiters and the usage or Extreme budget tyres. |
