XI to RWD
I saw this on another forum. Have you guys tried this?
After working on DPFix code clearing I may have stumbled on a way to make an XI fall into RWD only mode for a day by causing steering angle adaptation error. 1. Reset adaptations via JB4 or other methods 2. Allow ECU to sleep 3. Press start with foot off brake - again so all lights on dash on but not running 4. Press gas pedal to floor and back off to learn pedal (failure results in busted idle at startup) 5. Do not move steering wheel - press start and press brake 6. Vehicle starts and throws codes as shown in attachment 7 - enjoy RWD mode 8 - When done, park and cycle steering wheel fully side to side 9 - Go to sleep 10 - Wake up to AWD car again - all error codes are cleared I've done the above a few times now but never actually tried pushing hard enough to see if it was true RWD mode or not, as the AWD codes scared me until I figured out why they were happening. Thoughts? Anyone want to try this out or tell me why it's a horrible idea before I do? |

First time I hear about that. Usually people just unplug a fuse in the fuse box to achieve RWD on xi's. But that sounds interresting.

How does the fuse work? Just take it out and it is RWD like the standard 335i? Or do other things not function normally?
Does the traction control get thrown off? Does it harm anything? This could be fun. |

Traction control turns off, ABS, flickers spazz out, windshield wipers, etc. Well at least for my 330i. There's a thread somewhere here on it. It isn't that bad, just fun for a few blocks doing donuts with lol. Not sure what fuse you 335 guys have to unplug.

Is there any difference betweeen this method and the fuse method, specifically the wipers going full blast, lights, etc. Is there any way to avoid all that? thanks

I just saw this on another forum. I haven't tried it yet but seems simple enough to try. I'm a manual but assume the operations are the same.

I think this is something that could be done electronically (tune, code etc. ) someone seriously should look into it..... It would make the 2wd guys jealous as fffff

Turns out this is way harder than one would think, there are couple of long threads on it if you search.
