Road and Track compares E90 to F30
Just got my new R&T and there is an article on page 42 "BMW 328i vs. BMW 328i"
The E90 is a 08 and the F30 is 2012 The article does a great comparison between the two noting that they did not compare the 335 models because the 328 is "the one we'd buy with our own money" The E90 they compare doesn't have sport package while the F30 does. They note that the old cars interior feels a "full class more expensive than the new car's. And that's everywhere, from the switchgear to the center console to the glove box." noting that in the back the new car feels "rental-car grade" This exerpt pretty much sums it up "Our decision was unanimous: We liked the old car better, if only by a slight margin. And later, when we hopped into a post-face-lift, Sport-package-equipped E90 328i, it was game over for the F30. No contest. " So smile e90 brethren, and don't fret for that F30. Enjoy your ride!

This is surprising because I recently got a loaner F30 328i and it was night and day more fun to drive than the previous E90 328i loaners I've driven. The little turbo on the F30 does miracles for that car. The F30 interior is a different story, it's def hideous and feels extremely cheap.

Regarding the better gas mileage of the T4vs the I6: "in real-world driving, we observed a gain of less than 1.5 mpg"

What's on the cover of the newest R&T? I got one a week or two ago, about American road trips. Is that the one?

The cover has a pic of the new Porsche hybrid supercar. Black & red.

It's the quality of the materials, IMO. There is simply no comparison. Even though the E90 design/style may look more dated, the quality of the plastics and switchgear is a solid step above. For example, the plastic on either side of the drivetrain hump below the shifter feels like granite when you bang/knock on it.

I have to agree with them. That's why I ordered a last run e92 . It's salt much better than the f30 and the 4 sites uses more of that cheap feel. Ugh

Having a 2013 F30 328i parked in my garage since last Monday I can confirm that I can't wait to get back in my E92 335i. The car feels cheaper and that special BMW feel is missing and the steering feel is horrible. Its as if BMW has lost directions of how to make cars with great driving dynamics that put a smile on your face as soon as you get behind the steering wheel.

Based on looks alone, I think the interior of the F30 is nicer. Though I will agree that quality of materials seems to be lower than what's found in the E9x.
Driving impressions are a whole different story. The F30 is simply not as engaging to drive as the E9x. The steering is the biggest issue in that department for me. Road & Track's assessment is really pretty much spot on. I'm going to try and pick up this issue and read that article.
