Did it today.. No error codes.. Not a huge difference but notable difference in start up.. Not sure what the big fuss is all about.. Cool stuff and I don't see why this will hurt car's performance.

Hey guys I'm new and got a 08 e92 335i a coupes of weeks ago. My exhaust rattles a little bit on startup but damn it is loud. My dad has a 10 m5 and we were looking at somthing as easy as this to make his exhaust louder but we couldn't find anything so I just decided to try it out since its so easy to do. The first time starting it up with it unplugged there was zero rattle from my exhaust at all. Maybe that can tell me what wrong with it normally but so far doing this DIY has already fixed some things and it makes it sound so much better!

me 2 I have rattle on cold start, but it's coming from the exhaust flap... this isn't related to that actuator thing disconnected..

What a thread! This has been a very entertaining read, and a socio-psychological rumpus as well! I love the posts by those who confuse correlation with causation: "I unplugged my actuator and it started raining. When I plugged it back in, the rain stopped!"
Just one data point to add... I've had mine unplugged for 4000 miles, and amazingly these are the consequences: The exhaust is louder My engine has not been destroyed My cats did not explode My tailights did not go out My dealer did not void my warranty My car did not fail emissions inspection My car did not gain or lose power I must be the luckiest guy in the world - I beat the golf tee Gods! Man, I should go get a lottery ticket! |

My unit is still plugged in and I didn't do the mod yet my flap is always open. Why is this?
