2009 335XI going to FBO and upgraded turbo, any suggestions?
Hi,
As title, I going to FBO and upgrade the turbo within this few months. May or may not add meth kit, still debating. My corcern is, how reliable the AWD handle the increased HP and torque? If something wrong with the transfer case, how much it takes to fix, part plus labor? Beside the transfer case problem, what else I may face with this setup? Thanks! |

The other high-power Xis I know of (jpsimon, presidio335xi, etc) and I haven't had any issues with the AWD system. Unless you are launching hard you are unlikely to hit any AWD-specific issues. If you are launching hard then it's just the transfer case question.
Haven't had to replace a TC, so can't comment on costs.

I and ran into timing issues with mine, so I'd say you should pick your tune first and slowly see what your engine likes and doesn't don't just throw everything on and find that you can't actually use it all due to timing, or other factors that will only crop up when you are that heavily tuned.
Turn off DTC fully and awd is awesome. |

I've been FBO for 1.5 years as a 335xi. I learned on my eclipse gsx that you should always get the car moving first from a dig and after 1 second then mash on the gas. If your not in any competitive event... There is no sense in breaking parts for street cred. The more gentle u r on your driveline, the happier you pocket book will be

i have rbs +fbo+jb4 g5 iso+meth.my recomendation would be to go with rbs jb4+their meth kit or which ever turbo upgrade u had ij mind. i wouldnt have it any other way. Well imean a single would be lovely but the money spent vs money saved factor is what keeps me loving my rbs. ive had them for 4500+ hard driven miles and i havent had any probs. Terry and his crew aswell as Rob give excellent customer appreciation. i dont see where u would have any regrets!? i dont anyways..gl to you sir

and +1 about TC these cars grip wonderfully if u want to break traction spin and do burn outs maybe a rwd is more for you. I also would recommend leaving DTC engaged and dont bother with it.

Its AWD bro lmao it isn't turning the car magically into a RWD car. Also if you try to go WOT you get mad throttle closer.

I've been FBO with meth and will be reinstalling meth in the upcoming weeks. I highly recommend DTC or turning it off completely. It's a very safe car to drive with it off (the xi system). I always track with it off and have never spun, ever. Just get a simple tune turn it off on a rainy day to test it out. It's fun

You may find you don't need more power at some point, or find that it is too much hassle. Plus somewhere in there you'll be wanting suspension mods or brakes whatever. Meanwhile hardware evolves and who knows what will be out there in a year. Finally the learning curve is important, tackling an instantly highly modded car might be really hard to debug even the simplest thing if you aren't intimately familiar with every step along the way. |

Wouldn't take that long either: throw a tune on drive for a few 100 miles logging then FMIC + Intake + tune upgrade drive a few 100 miles then meth + e85 log a few 100miles then upgraded turbos and you're done lmao somewhere I'd do suspension... I did Dinan Stage 3 and while you can do just as good or better for cheaper, it did make a noticeable improvement on my XI You don't have an m3 suspension and you're asking a LOT from the car even stock to take turns at high speeds, throw on double or triple the HP and it would give me pause. I was planning to do the handling/suspension improvements down the road, after some performance improvement.
At this point, I just try to figure out if this car worth for modifying and the efficient steps to approach the performance improvements. My plan was get all the parts installed and protune it. But, after some suggestions, it seems to buy the tune first and slowly get the parts installed. |
