Why not 325d LCI?
Just wondering why I should not buy 325d LCI instead of 330d LCI?
Most of us know that 330d is a bullet proof engine and these cars retain their value. Now considering 325d LCI has the same engine and has huge tuning potential to bring it to 330d mapped level, then why not 325d? Is it not a bargain especially when they are cheap compared to 330d? I am aware that if you buy it cheap, it will sell cheap. I am also aware of the fact that there are less potential customers for 325d cars. But if you mention that it is mapped and at the same level as 330d mapped, then would it be a problem to sell on? Opinions? PS: we are discussing auto gear box.

As far as I know the 325d isn't that popular due to it not being that much more up on bhp/torque than the 320d & it doesn't outweigh it in terms of tax cost/mpg
However I could be talking out of my bottom! |

Depends if you are going to map it tbh. And the difference in tax/insurance/purchase price?
Anyone who knows BMWs would know the 325D and 330D are identical other than a map. |

Jay I am comparing 325 to 330d. Not 325 to 320d

So a decent map and it goes up to mapped 330D. Plan is to map whatever I get in the future.

I believe the gear boxes are different mate, the 330d gearbox is rated higher than the 325d, 600nm vs 400 I believe....

I wonder if there is any conclusive evidence? I am not sure why tuners then tune 325D LCI equivalent to 330D LCI?

I wouldn't say no to a 325d mate, I'm sure the cost saving from a 330d outweighs the cost of tuning and no doubt a 325d will be cheaper insurance too, possibly tax aswel!
I think what jay 325i was trying to say is people either buy the 330d who car less about mpg and people who care about mpg get the 320d and ignore the 325d as it's a compromise on both cars but in different ways! It's a slower 330d but a worse mpg car than a 320d! |

Brake discs and calipers are smaller on the 325d. 330d and 335d shared the same brake set up. The reason also why the 325d are cheaper is because they aren't as sought after due to the running costs being the same as a 330d and they were cheaper when new in the first place. It's also a bit of a forgotten model as most people tended to go 4pot 320d or 6pot 330d.

What I was trying to say... -325D is cheaper on tax -cheaper on insurance -cheaper to buy -easy to get mapped equal to 330d mapped car So why should you go for 330d.... And then ukbeemerboy posted the response

Most people are put off by modified cars so your re sale market is going to be smaller, and the car could potentially sell for less than a non modified 325d. Unless you get lucky and sold it on this site.

I am aware of the difference in brakes and 330d E90/91 comes with the jet washers compared to 325d. But there is a lot of conflicting info on the forums. Most google searches reveal that the engines are identical including the injectors. I was under the impression that you can map 325d equal to mapped 330d (both produces 300 BHP). Bit new to me that injectors and turbos are different. I have never gone on real oem and compared their parts. And gear box is different. So a NO to 325d!

My bro has a 325d
It takes the wee wee out of my 320d (stock vs stock) And i looked into mapping it and superchips said 270bhp and they are conservative so i guess they can map higher |

Yours is pre - lci iirc? 184bhp compared to the 204 of the 325d in the lci models is more of a fair comparison.

Quick real oem on LCI e90 / E91 revealed that
325D uses the same injector as 318d http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=13537794555 330D uses the same injector as 320d http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref....13537805429%09 Confusion is on the Turbos. If you search it with LCI 325 turbo specs, then it is common b.w 325 and 330D http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...11&fg=50&hl=32 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=11657796312 However if you search it with LCI 330D specs, then it shows a different turbo http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=11&fg=50&hl=4 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref....%0911657799759 Which is common b.w 325DN and 330DN. What the heck is N?

My comparison is bit confusing. Can you kindly post what you searched? If its the same turbo and injectors....then yes it can be mapped to same level as 330d (LCI cars only). If they are same, LCI 325d cars are real bargains!
