The delay from track to track for a continous track is intolerable. Playing any electronic/trance music is painful, when you wait for the 2 sec pause. Lame IMO, but I have to deal with it. I forget if the iPOD deals with this any better? |

BMW doesn't recommend using the 6FL for external HDD. I doubt they would do anything to make it better for it. Although, I would see the iPOD/external HDD an extra selling point, not sure why they don't support it more. Maybe a deal with Apple. |

I just purchased a USB 2.0 enclosure for 2.5" IDE drives. It's self powered, so I imagine I could try a few drives and see what works and what doesn't. More importantly, I paid $6.30 shipped. Can't beat that with bat.
http://www.fatwallet.com/t/18/772086/ "Transfer data quickly and easily with this great external hard drive case! The USB 2.0 interface allows for data transfer rates up to 480Mbps. This case is powered by a USB 2.0 connection. The easy to use design allows for quick installation of 2.5-inch hard drives. This enclosure provides a fast and easy way to add more storage space to your Desktop or Notebook. The USB 2.0 interface allows users to read and write large files up to 480Mbps per second, and this device is also backward compatible to the USB 1.1 specification. Reuse old 2.5 Hard Drives as perfect external storage!"

Sorry if this was covered as I didn't have time to read all 11 pages of this thread.
Anyone knowing HDDs, how would the rapid cooling of the HD in the A/C armrest effect the life of the HD? As cheap as portable HDDs are this seems like a reasonable solution. With iPods its recommended you remove it from the hot car as it destroys the battery life. Seems every solution beyond a SSD has its limitations. SSD = Solid State Drive |

Do we know yet if the latest progman fixes the delay in switching music? Of if the 2008's eliminate the problem? I have an 08 and I am ready to get an HD, but I am waiting for verification that the delay is eliminated. Anybody?????!!!!!

Follow up on the 300GB Buffalo drive.
Ok, I loaded about 11GB of music, and everything shows up and works fine. When you are listening to a song and then choose another song it takes about 3 seconds for it to start playing the new song. I think that is acceptable. So far no complaints. The HD also fits into the pouch under the armrest. You can close the top flap so the velcro holds the flap, but the middle velcro doesn't quite reach. It's good enough and nothing gets in the way of the arm rest closing. The right angle usb cord that comes with this unit keeps the cable out of the way also. |

When you say playlist, do you mean from the playlist selection or the next song in the album? The reason I am asking is because I don't have a playlist setup...I'm not really sure on how to setup a playlistis it just a folder named playlist? let me know and I'll try to run a test. |

I am confused. Isn't there a couple of second delay between songs on all albums, CD or IPOD? Is this delay any different? I really want to buy a hard drive or IPOD and I am waiting to see what you guys figure out. I would love to get the hard drive since per dollar it seems like a much better choice.

When selecting a new song there is a 2-3 sec delay in starting that song but that is no different than an ipod. |
