Ah, that's not good. You might have missed a little detail, there is a slot on the steering wheel that holds one of the wire to prevent it from rat-tail-ing. Did you insert the wire into that slot? Borrowing bavarian's image...see it

The wheel looks great, though, Jesal! I can't wait to check it out this weekend.

This DIY was very helpful, I just installed my wheel on my E90. Just a few notes which would have helped me:
For the slots in the back of the wheel, they are more like slits. I know it's a small difference, but it did take me a while to find them. If you turn your replacement wheel upside down and look on the back side, they will be very obvious as it's the only holes in the wheel. That's how my friend and I found them. For steptronic cars, the only extra steps are: Detaching the black wire harnesses from both paddles. This is not too bad, there are no clips on these plugs, they just pull straight out. Just be firm but gentle Then there are just two screws which hold the paddles in (one each). Coming from an E46 M3, this wheel just feels right at home. Fat and squishy! I love it. |

do you think I can order and get the M-sport steering wheel installed via dealership in Nashville, TN (USA)? I don't want to void warranty as I will be selling my 335i in May 08.

How does the wheel swap void the warranty? Unless I missed something in this thread, there's no problem. Of course your dealer in TN will install, for about 1.5 hours of labor...

I seriously doubt any warranty issues, but it will make you fall in love with your bimmer all over again.

Sorry I did not notice your note until today. Hopefully you found them by now. This is the singular most difficult part of the DIY, but once you find them it's like the easiest thing. The clips are located inside these invisible slits in the side of the wheel hub. The best way to locate them is to feel for a soft rubber spot. Look over the posts about this in previous pages in this thread. And relax, it's no big deal to pop your steering wheel off and on.

I want to do this to my 335i Step w/paddles. A few pages back someone said that steering wheel for use with paddles is different. Does anyone have the part number for that or is it the same one as non-paddles? Just to make sure, is this the right part number? Thanks.

At first, same as you. I got the screw driver in an angle and was finally able to feel the bracket push it and the front will pop. repeat on the other side and the airbag will pop.
