Ok, so will running any other oil besides the BMW oil or equivalent (Castrol full synthetic 'german formula' 0W30 or 5W30) void the warranty?

If not, then what's the best recommended oil for the 335i? I'm about to do my own oil change within the next few days..........From my understanding from reading all these posts, is that as long as the oil's approved for LL01, then it should be good? Granted it's either gotta be 0W40 or 5W30?

TIA

if you have warranty still, just stick with bmw oil, mobile 1 0w40 or german castrol. it's not really worth trying some other oil and give yourself a headache if something happens... you can try and use any and all kinds of engine oil once your warranty runs out...

Run any oil that has LL01 spec. If you want to keep the car in excess of 100k miles and worry about sludge you could consider doing an oil change every 7500 miles. As for the weight it can be 0w-30, 0w-40, 5w-30, 5w-40.

Pentosin, Motul, Mobil 1, Castrol, etc etc.

I just got an oil change w/ Mobil One 0W-40, they told me to change at 5k miles intervals. Any suggestions?

or, let's say if i don't drive much mileages per month, but the car is parked a lot. How much time should I take before changing the oil? For example, if i drive 5k mileage every half a year, i'm not going to change my oil every half a year, right?

Depends on your driving. I would think 7500 miles or 1 yr whichever is less would be perfect for NYC driving.

Just to revive. The Total Quartz INEO MC3 5w-30 is PAO per the most recent MSDS that I can find.

What about the Amsoils? Anyone know if they are better and still OK to use in the 335i?

Thanks!

My source for providing me Castrol 0-30 really cheap is now gone.
if I buy retail, it is really expensive here.
$11-13 per litre. + 12% Tax.

lets just say I was pay 50 for oil and filter before.

Do you guys get castrol edge 0w40 there? We have it at walmart for 26$ or so. Its full synthetic, made in germany, ll01 and (highly) recommended over the mobil.

How long have you been using it?
Or better question:
How many k since you have been using it?

Any apparent issues?

yeah, i see many people run the m1 0w40. i heard bmw dealerships might be switching to m1 for their new cars. only reason i'm leaning against it is posts mentioning slightly more engine noise with it. anyway, i hear this european blend quality is very good.

I used BMW 5w30, Mobil 1 5w30 (not LL01), Mobil 1 0w40 (LL01), Total Quartz (LL01), Castrol Import (LL01). None of these oils made any difference, except the M1 5w30 that produced sludge, that got cleaned up with M1 0w40. So my conclusion, anything LL01 works.
