Would a large size 3.46 Bolted Diff (Full pumpkin) work on a 2012 335iS with a manual transmission? I'm under the impression that the size of the differential (large v. small) determines whether it will be compatible.

Just noticed my oil level has dropped about a quarter from the Max line.
The car has only 44,000km on it and it's only been 10,000km since BMW changed the oil. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed any similar issues / problems. Hopefully this isn't the start of something |

BMW's typically burn some oil. On my e46, it was about 1 quart every 1000 miles. On the e9x I've noticed its usually about 1 quart every 3-5k miles. You should be alright unless you see it drop VERY quickly/smoke a lot

I have about 5k since I bought it, and I have had to add 1 qt twice, the most recent being today. Dealer said it's normal.

+1 on being normal. I'm at 24K miles and have had to stop by the dealership to top off my oil 4 or 5 times now.
I thought that was rather strange too. Good reason to add a catch can, I guess. Where is the best spot on N54?

Going to the drag strip tomorrow. Going to test out if if the Sport button really activates the overboost or if the car will overboost in at state.

Huh? Overboost is always active regardless of the drive mode.

How do you know for sure? Have you done testing?

Oh, and here is Launch Control. But, I doubt you'll be able to pull that off every time at the Drag Strip. It doesn't always activate and is hard to time if you are already staged in the box. Plus, it's faster to "double stage" the launch - as some people call it. You can look up those videos here on the forum. I also got better traps times and better trap speeds - feathering the throttle on my own leaving it in AT and SPORT/SPORT. But, I also left a lot more rubber on the track in the process.
Most people don't get this video because all they see is the RMP and SPEEDO stall during launch. But, the point of the footage outside is the fact that I had no smokey burnout and left hardly any rubber on the pavement - regardless of what the ECM is doing to the engine and tranny at the time. That is the point of launch control. I still get 0-60 in 4.8 - which is faster than you can do on your own regardless of the drive mode.

Adman, how are those videos proof?
Some say it's only active when the sport button is pressed. If someone could use the BT tool to log boost with the button pressed and not that would be great. Last edited by SQ5; 10-17-2014 at 09:59 AM.. |

What's a 335is M Sport by the way? No such thing. It's a 335is.

I thought in my first video I had the boost gauge set to my gas gauge sweep. If not, my bad. I think that video was all about AutoTune MAP5. You can CLEARLY see when you are in overboost with the JB4/Cobb/Procede/Dinan setup that way - as long as you disable the CAN - essentially putting it back to stock mode MAP0. Otherwise, you eliminate overboost altogether running a custom tune. I would hit approximately 14psi before dropping back to 11psi. Depends on the RPM, gear, temp, ECM, etc. Not sure what all BMW Engineering put into the algorithm. I think that's why the car hesitates every now and then when dropping from 7th to 5th or 6th to even 3rd. There is a lot for the ECM to measure. I thought the boost sweep was kinda cheesy on the analog gauge. Nonetheless, I saw overboost activated in every drive mode with the PNP. I no longer have my JB4. So, someone else will have to video that for you. Or like you said, take your car to a dyno shop and post up your findings. That way, you can be right and show us the proof. [/unsubscribed]
