Clicking in engine bay when above 35mph - HELP!
Hi,
I have a 2006 325i. I went to grab lunch during my break this afternoon and I noticed after half-mile or so of driving, there would be this clicking noise from the engine bay when I would get to around 35-40mph. There's no vibration or anything. No error codes popping up and the clicking goes away once I slow down. No clicking at idle either. The car drives fine and the computer says my oil is just above halfway between min & max. I put it in neutral and revved it up a little bit but nothing. It seems like after I reach a certain speed that the sound comes back. I checked my wheel wells for any debris (twigs or branches) and nothing. I checked the engine bay and everything looks fine. Checked under the car, seems fine. The sound seems to be coming from the middle, since I can't tell if its coming from the left or right. Also, it seems to be coming from the rear of the engine bay (closer to the cabin). I opened my window while driving and it seems to be louder from inside than the outside. I don't think i could hear the sound from outside. Any ideas what it may be? Is this something i should be concerned with? I'm working out of town about 2 hours away from home and will be heading home tomorrow, so i'd like to get this figured out. Hopefully it just goes away when I head out later this evening. Thanks in advance! spoke with my mechanic back home, and he says it might be the driveshaft bearing
anyone have input on the difficulty of DIY or an estimate of the cost to get fixed? |

Centre propshaft bearing? Maybe that's what the mech means? Seems to be speed related, but not engine rev related, so makes sense.
