Yeah, I guess you're right. The D2 in my car was about $1000. Well worth it though, IMO.

The MS-8 can provide decent results, especially for someone who doesn't want to futz with time alignment and EQ. Going full DSP gives better results but its not for everyone. I think the Helix DSP Pro and Helix amps that have it built-in have the edge right now. Mosconi of course has the 6to8 but I think the Helix DSP Pro is superior to the 6to8 as you can do full 31 band parametric for each driver. Amazing versatility.
One of the best compromises, to me, was the Pioneer HUs, such as the 800/880PRS and 99RS. The auto EQ TA would get you 90% there and you had the option to tweak if you wanted. Last edited by snaimpally; 07-09-2015 at 09:25 PM.. |

So I did order this through Nelson@bimmertech. Yet to receive it and he mentioned the e90 brackets are still due from the manufacturer.
At least reading about it on f30 and f80 forums, it looks like you guys have done a great design there. Cant wait to drop this in my car. |

Installers generally poo-poo the MS-8 because it does the tuning for them, and it often does a better job than what they can do within the time frame of the install. They also hate it because they don't know how to prep the system for the auto-tune to achieve the desired results.
For most OEM systems, the MS-8 will transform it in 30 seconds. For aftermarket systems, it takes some time to set everything up correctly and to the MS-8's "liking". I'd really like to see if any of the MS-8 haters can install their DSP of choice into my car and within 6 hours of tuning can even come close to the level of my current system. I think not.

If you want something to do it for you and for it to tell you what "good" sound is, sure, buy an ms8. If you want to be able to get a sound that blows you away, get a real dsp |

I suppose it's a matter of opinion and taste and what you're willing to do for your audio system.
I'm no pro installer. I ordered most of my gear from 6spdcoupe who's an entire state over from me. Had a friend that was a local installer advise and help install along the way. With the DSP, I did my research into what I wanted and what kind of sound I was looking for. I've heard plenty of competition level systems to know what my car was not doing and what I wanted it to do. Best start for me was using this site: http://tracerite.com/calc.html to start me off on time alignment of the various speakers to give me a rough starting point, and the rest sort of came through trial and error. Did I spend 6+hours doing this? Maybe? if I counted the time I spent reading and researching. Would I be confident enough to duplicate what I liked in someone else's car? I dunno, I probably would be able to do something that's along the lines of MS-8 level tuning in less than 6+ hours now that I got a better feel for what I'm doing. |
