Tire size for 2011 335xi with style 193 wheels
I bought my car in December and am wanting to change out the runflats that came with it. The wheels that I have are 18x8 et34 front and 18x8.5 et37 rear. I am considering a square setup. Can I do so with the wheels that I have? I would like to get Michelin PSS tires in 245/35/18. Would I have any rubbing or fitment issues, especially in the front? I will mostly drive on city streets, but love to go to drivers ed days to really push the limits of my car. I would ultimately like to dial out understeer and even add a little bit of oversteer potential, if possible, since I am a fan of powerslides. I am also considering upgrading the suspension to Koni Yellows. I don't care about lowering the car, but it may happen, when I get springs that work well with the shocks.

Fender clearance won't be an issue. A 245 on a 8in wheel is borderline too wide, the sidewalls will really fold over in hard cornering. 235 is really the max you should run on an 8in wheel. 235 will be perfect on an 8.5 also. Plus MPSS run wide anyways.

Thanks, for the reply. I am glad I didn't buy the 245/35/18's. I think that 235/40/18's are exactly what I am looking for. More grip in the front and less in the rear. If it doesn't work out, I can still get 265/35/18 for the rear and have an extra set of front tires.

Thanks Fun w/N54. Will do.
I am set on the size of tire, but have some choices to make on the type. I may as well ask my questions in this thread. Since my car came with run flats and no spare, I would want a spare in my trunk if I went with non run flats. There are no hooks in the trunk of my car. I am wanting the space saver spare for the e60 that works the 335i. How are people securing it in the trunk? I am also considering getting another set of run flats and have interest in the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP. Does anyone have experience with this tire? One thing that I have read that concerns me is that the sidewalls can bubble when hitting potholes. What non run flat tires should I consider, aside from the PSS, if I am wanting to increase the ability to powerslide? Is powersliding safe for my car since it does not have LSD, or would I be risking damage to the differential or other parts? |

I had a xdrive with tune and with DSC off you could get a little out of line but nothing crazy. In the wet little more entertaining. Xdrive is nice but not indestructible and not to be confused with capabilites of the EVO or STI . I put almost 45k on my conti DWS on my xdrive and ran all year round (WI). Then again the rear DWSs only lasted 15k with DSC mainly off on my RWD 335is. Assuming you are looking for performance all seasons AND it snows where you live I wouldn't hesitate putting another set Cont DWSs on. Good luck.

Yeah. I am leaning towards non runflats, although the Michelin PS2 ZP's get good reviews for being non runflat like. If I go with non runflats, I would like to have a spare in my trunk, even for city driving, because I can't be spending time at the side of the road waiting for a tow truck and then not have a car to drive to where I am going, although, realistically, I haven't gotten a flat tire in ten years or more.
I went to a drivers ed day earlier this year and they had the cones set up in a wide arc. Near the end of the arc, I was surprised to feel the rear of the car start to slide as well as the front. It was very predictable and controllable. I did not think that an xdrive car could do that at all and have been wanting to make it easier to do. My car is definitely not in the Evo or STI range...just a little more fun than I thought. I also like how well is stays not sliding in most situations. I have dedicated winter wheels and tires, so I only need summer tires. I test drove a 335xi with Continental Extremecontact DW summer tires and really noticed better traction and softer ride. |
