thanks for this review, made my decision that much easier about the m3 bits
recently got a wavetrak lsd and KWV3 coilovers installed and started tracking the car and was looking to firm up my car's handling i did notice the M3 upgrade path you can go either BMW or get the TRW parts which are way cheaper - but they're exactly the same things correct?

Both are TRW parts, you can get the ones that have the ///M logo, or the ones with it ground off and save a bunch of money.

do you think the difference in handling would be good on a OEM sport suspension or better change coilovers ??

The M3 suspension parts will most likely be the beginning of my modifications to our daily driver. We have an automatic (the wife doesn't drive a stick) so I won't be going over the top with this car. After this mod I want to get it sitting lower but do not want to sacrifice ride quality.
Thanks for the very informative post. Last edited by oregondonor; 02-15-2014 at 08:31 PM.. |

Nice review. I have most of the same stuff on my car, did mine in stages, and relied heavily on advice from Harold at HPA during the process. I skipped the rear sway bar on Harold's advice, even though I was tempted to install an M3 rear bar when the SF bushings were replaced. He told me to get the stiffest M3 front bar, but that a stiffer rear bar would rob some of the traction I just gained with the LSD, and that the rear guide rods would stiffen up the rear end sufficiently. I added the rear wishbones even though he didn't think it necessary. I too am very happy with the results.
BTW, it is true that the TRW part is the exact same piece. Someone just grinds the M3 logo off the OEM control arms. Might as well save some money where you can! |

The Öhlins was in retrospect one of the best buys for this car. I can only recommend it without reservation. I've also been thinking to put an Öhlins suspension on my current ride, but the price is unfortunately prohibitive...

How badly did your perches and threads rust over the time you had them?

When I sold them they were still in pretty good shape.
