E91 2009 facelift glovebox USB MP3 upload

Hi guys,

Newbie to the idrive.

Have a facelift E91 LCI with CIC iDrive.
I've popped some MP3's onto a USB stick formatted to FAT32 with the intention of updating from the USB in the glovebox (I don't have a console USB) and for some reason, when I go to through the menus, I can find no menu for external devices (just CD/Aux). The USB stick lights up when I plug it in.

First thing is that I'm unsure whether the hard drive option is there for MP3's but I understood that the CIC unit had this option as automatic.

Can anyone help me please?

From what I remember you go into music collection, select options and then at the bottom of the list select import from usb or something like that.

As above
If you want to stream from the usb you need to use the armrest usb slot.

Thanks guys,

I don't have the Armrest USB so I guess that answers the questions.

I've been told that I only have the 8GB HDD so there's no room for MP3 and maps so it looks like the only option is to throw a load of MP3 songs onto a CD or a DVD.

I've had a 2009 and 2011 with CIC and HDD (both Pro Nav though)

Neither car had an armrest USB

I could play from USB or Import from USB in both cars (from the glovebox socket)

I'm a few hundred miles from my car ATM, so I can't run through it, but essex_lad's comment about Music Collection rings a bell.

Sorry I can't help any further

Mike

What size USB stick are you using? - it may not be set up for larger drives (I've only used a max 2Gb stick)
If you're trying to load from a portable HDD, there isn't enough power in the USB socket to run many of these, and whilst it may light up the LED, it may not be enough to actually run the drive

The Pro nav is fine. It's just business Nav that doesn't support so I'm now informed.

Thanks for the time guys.
