X6 what do you think of it?
Just looking at the BMW website. The marketing guff says its a coupe with the practicality of an SAV. As you can tell I am not convinced by this squashed X5.
I bet the talented engineers at BMW are really hacked off with all these marketing lead products when they could be getting on with producing lighter more sporty cars. http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle...xperience.html

Hi Gibbo, it looks a bit disjointed, sort of coupe lines from the side but the chunky arse of a typical BMW 4x4. Can't see what niche it falls into really. It doesn't look as big as say a Q7 either?
I'm sure the designers would rather get their teeth into something more traditionally BMW. |

I think that's pretty Fugly. Personally the sooner we see the back of the SUV trend the better; big, ugly, heavy cars used to drive small children to school...crazy.
These crossovers are even worse, they not as practical as a normal SUV, but don't handle as well as a normal car, kinda the worst of all worlds! Give me a normal 3 or 5 any day. |

BMW already make a big 4x4 - a 'coupe' 4x4 is just daft. If you don't need the space just get a coupe |

So this one will not be making Carlos model collection? The worrying thing about BMW is that the cars grow on me when I see them over time and the sports version comes out. Examples below. 6 series I now really like. 1 series 3 dr sport in Le Mans Blue or the 135i Coupe in Space Grey, red leather at dealers last week. 5 series sport

+1 Gibbo, BMW's usually grow on me too.
Love the 6 now also, have done for the past year or so. Always loved the 5 series M-Sport. Now really like the 1 series coupe to.

I am going to test drive one next year to compare to the 3. The magazine reviews say it's a bit more refined than it could/should have been - but I really take what half of them say as tosh and make decisions for myself. Also want to drive in 08. Mini Cooper S and Honda Civic Type R. I have never driven a Japanese car but want to see what its all about as this has really split press reaction.

I aint seen a 135i coupe yet in the flesh no, well tell a lie, i caught a climpse of one on the A406 one night but cant classify it as a real '' in the metal viewing'' as it was so far away and it was only for a second.
Not for one second do i think i am driving the wrong car. The 3 series is leagues ahead in the beauty stakes. For me its the better car. I do like the 1er coupe tho and with procede it will be an absolute animal.

I think you guys are missing the point. Forget what it looks like, think of the twin turbo V8. And you thought a twin turbo straight 6 was good.

Great engine but in the wrong body. In the 3/5 or 6 it will be great, but they won't put it in the 3 because of the M3.

The looks WILL grow on everyone.
I think BMW will sell everyone they can make, there are alot of image concious people out there who want to be seen in the latest, and boy will they be seen. Why the fuck have they decided to call the 4.4 twin turbo model Xdrive50i i will never know...... it'll do about 15mpg, what a pointless fucking car.

The V8 twin turbo is engineering masterpiece. With that power and sound, who cares about economy!!! lol
Fair point, that engine is very anti the current political convenience of bashing gas guzzlers!!! My brother (for some unknown reason) drives a Range Rover supercharged which gives an average of 13mpg in town. The X6 twin turbo will be seen with the same eyes. |

Since when do coupe's come with 4 doors?
God I hate marketing people. I am very interested in the engine though. I've never seen anyone mount the turbos in between the banks and it makes no sense to me. It looks cool but not practical. It looks like they blow right into the intake manifold. How the hell do you use an intercooler in that configuration? Unless they are not planning to which, will most likely limit the amount of "fun" you can have tuning it. Plus your exhaust now has to run over the valve covers to get to them. I'm betting that changes before production. I also think the active air damns are pretty cool but, I see them being open most of the time given how hot the engine bay in these cars are. |

We can have it pretty much both ways, so it makes sense. But cars that can't manage 20mpg, that doesn't make sense. |

I think the X6 looks great and they`ll sell bucket loads. As for practicality, I doubt if most X5`s ever carry more than 4 people anyway. The old X5 never came with a 7 seat option and I don`t think this new X6 is a lot bigger than the old X5, is it ?
I`m fed up of people moaning about the economy and the environment, if fuel goes up to £10 a litre, then good. There`ll be more empty roads for me to drive on. |
