how to change '335i' rear badges?

hi all

I'd like to change my chrome 335i rear badge to a matte black version.

Could someone post a link or two to some good suppliers (even on ebay)?

And, though I've found instructions on removing existing numbers (using fishing line and hair dryer), I can't find any tips on how to align the new numbers.

I'd like to get the placement of the new numbers exactly the same as the old ones.

thanks in advance

You can always just plasti-dip them.

Wouldn't I still have to remove them to plasti-dip, and then replace them on the car?
Or can I mask off the areas around the letters, and just use plastidip spraycan?

cheers

I just taped a Square around the letters with blue painters tape and news paper. You can use trash bags or anything really. Once Plasti-Dip dries, it will tear along any 'sharp' edges. In this case it will tear along the base of the lettering since there is a gap between the trunk and the letters. So simply pull it up from the taped off seam and most of it should come off in one go. I had almost a perfect stencil of plasti-dip 335i when I did mine. If any gets caught inside the numbers, use a tooth pic to pull/poke it out.

Youtube is a great place to find a DIY for this.

I ended up using plasti-dip. The cans are expensive downunder (A$30).

Followed your guidance, and videos on youtube. Also did my kidney grilles.

When I did the letters and peeled off the surrounding carefully after a few hours, it still took some off the end 'faces' of a couple of digits. I painted them with a permanent marker to hide the chrome.

Wow, sorry to hear they are 30 bucks man. Probably could have got you a few and mailed them for cheaper. $7 here in cali. I usually only wait about 10-15 mins after the last coat to peel it off. Usually easier when its still drying. You can spray some into a small container and paint it on with a brush.

I changed mine out to a larger carbon fiber badge. Easiest way to align them is to lay out all of the decals face down onto a piece of painters tape with the bottom of the numbers flush with the line of tape. Then just peel the adhesive off the back of the numbers and apply the entire strip of painters tape to the car using a rubber level underneath it (if that makes sense).

Does anyone know where to get the smaller size 335is badges that only that model seemed to have on its side panel, near the indicator repeaters?

Cheers

Bimmian sells 'Custom Vehicle Emblems' that do have a smaller, non-italic size, seems they run about 7/8". You can get any letter/number combination you want.
