Full red taillights

Today I saw a 335 with the white part of the taillights red and thought how nice it looked and wanted to know whats the best way to get that effect and what paint or tint would be used?

I see . How does it look all matched and everything? Would you by any chance know what kind of vinyl or is it just red?

A lot of people have purchased red tint film for taillights from Amazon/eBay . Pretty cheap and reversible. Or you can go with vht nite shade red. Here's the link for it.

Yup blends well. you can only tell its vinyl if you look at if from like 2 feet away and its very mild. I just bought random roll of vinyl from ebay. If u go to my instagram @bimmerboii_ i have some pics where you could see the rear tails.

lamin x has some red vinyl wrap designed for headlights and taillights. pretty cool stuff, but its kinda expensive and I hear it hard to do. I had it done by a shop.

Honestly... my recommendation because the OEM look so dated with the white 1/4 section... take them to a proper paintshop and have them only tape-ff the reverse light and make them tint clearcoat the entire assembly. Why would you even want to reverse it? Unless you plan on doing the whole LCI rear upgrade later.

They basically fine-sand the entire stockies and clean them with an alcohol-based chemical to strip it off anything that could get in between the clearcoat and the plastic... then they use clearcoat with some red (you could also add half-a-drop of black just to give it a slightly more aggressive look, not smoked) and shoot the entire assemblies with a little more on the 1/4 to match the rest properly.

You could also just take the same concept but spray them yourself with a tinted glass spray can but the only thing is they usually will "wear" off. Here is the DIY thread, really simple to do. I did it for a buddy in 30 mins with taping and time in between coats. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1048529

I feel like thats a pricy solution. A simple vinly overlay or vht paint would be cheap and look great. You might want to reverse it if you plan on selling it and want it to be OEM

Vinyl is a good and cheap mod if you're looking to change the rear taillights. A friend did the same with his RSX (to remove the amber) and you couldn't really tell unless you were looking for the vinyl.

I agree and I did the same thing. the red transparent nite shades paint wouldn't be a bad option either. Also on mine i left small white slits similar to the look of the LCI taillights.

Here are they on my 330i
I love these lights and wish I could have them, but they are few and far between in the USA. I'd have to order them myself and the shipping is almost half the retail price

Idk why these ppl are having fading issues with the vinyl. I bought some random cheap vinyl off ebay, had them on for over a year now and no fading. Plus i live in florida, the "sunshine state"

That was my DIY from a few years back. One comment because I ran them like this for two years without clear coat, was that the red eventually started to wear off. That's from daily driving thruout the entire year in Chicago (winters, summers, rain, snow, etc). I'm confident that with some clear coat that wouldn't be an issue.

I also tried red vinyl and perhaps it was the kind of vinyl- but I could never get the color of the inners to match the outers. Wherever the white was with the red vinyl looked too pink compared to the cherry red outers. Just my .02

Owner of the DIY with the paint says his paint did not fade at all in 2 years without clear coat. With a clear coat it would last even more.
