For '06 325 and 330, for a while they started selling the OEM VDO (Continental) part, which is exactly same without the BMW logo, and can be bought for $170.

Also to get solid connection best would be to replace both the connector housing and the pins inside, which are available for sale. I had bought new pins, but seeing they are crimped, decided to give chance just clean the old once rather than undo the crimps, and it worked. I do think the new connector housing also helped, it stays put better than the old one.

Anyway, good luck. It may this, or something else, but it would be nice to rule out one.

The reason the RPM drop is because the engine is under load when you put it in gear. But it should only dip a little.
Would it be bad for the engine if the car is getting too much air?
