Got broken into this morning
Between the time of 3-5 am my 335i, along with 6 other cars, we're broken into. I've been wondering -WHY ON EARTH DIDN'T THE ALARM GO OFF?! I understand that some of the older higher end cars that got broken into may not have triggered an alarm, but a 2008 335i should want to make a fuss when somebody collapses in the driver side window. Am I wrong? What's up with that?!?

Nope. I didn't realize they didn't come with some version of one. Thanks for the tip. I'll be looking into viper or some other systems today.

All they can find in my e90 will be a 5 y.o. TomTom 3'' lcd screen GPS lol that goes for $3 dollar and 50 cents in local thrift shops. Well maybe burglars can also get some napkins from Subway left over in glove-box too |

A 2008 like yours will probably have the prewiring for the OEM alarm, it can be added for 300 in parts plus labor. I had a viper alarm in my E36 and it was a piece of shit

I don't think it makes a lot of sense to install alarm right now. This kind of stuff happens very rarely nowadays - you have to be really stupid to break into car lol. Probability of this happening twice is close to Nil. Besides, alarm won't do a damn difference anyway - if they broke windows - alarm won't prevent that. They can brake window and then run anyway

Yes for real - alarm is optional in U.S.
Cars up to late 2009 build date still are pre-wired for alarm - which means to install is EZ, after that, no pre-wiring & install is too much PITA & mucho $$, so not worth it for factory alarm

Sucks that someone would do that. Hopefully, they didn't get much. Stock radios probably aren't worth much to thieves. |

Sorry to hear about the break in. Try an alarm, or find a different place to park. If they broke in that many cars, it was most likely someone with a substance abuse problems who was trying to find anything they could sell quickly. An alarm might not deter this person who is probably not all that worried about being caught.

the good news is your car is probably pre wired for an alarm and they've gotten cheaper over the years still not worth it. instead, spend the $ and time to install a nice 360 degree dashcam that has a shock sensor, gps, and texts you when the vehicle moves and exactly where it is. Alarms are getting old school One of the worst experiences I've ever had was having a passenger side window broken into (on my previous car) in NYC because i was stupid enough to leave my radar detector out. The 4 hour trip back to VA in the winter was not fun... |

I don't have an alarm either so the car can be broken into, driven off, and stripped without so much of a beep of the horn the good news is your car is probably pre wired for an alarm and they've gotten cheaper over the years still not worth it. instead, spend the $ and time to install a nice 360 degree dashcam that has a shock sensor, gps, and texts you when the vehicle moves and exactly where it is. I'm assuming you are using some version of one

Sorry to hear that man. Shit happens. You said 6 other cars got hit as well? I bet at least one of them had an alarm and that didn't stop them. When I hear an alarm go off I automatically assume its my neighbor pressing the wrong button or something. When is the last time you heard an alarm and went running to check it out? Save your money and use it to fix your window/radio in case it happens again.
