finally found B5 in chicago
I've been using meijers and oasis for years and I have found out that it's a hoax, it's nothing but biodiesel
I did some research and finally filled up the car with b5 and the all i have to say is WOW ... so much more low end torque and averaging 100 more miles to the tank .. this is the shell gas station on ogden and 294 in hinsdale, here's the website I used to call around https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...9000000002&z=6

Funny you use the word "hoax." There is a site called biodiesel.org that purports to list stations that carry it. I have called all the stations in the DC-Maryland area only to find that NONE of them carry biodiesel. I emailed that point of contact listed at the site and the response was "meh." At this point I think the program has achieved zombie status -- doing little or nothing but living off of whatever residual tax credits are coming in.

This is what needs to be pushed coast to coast by the federal government to replace biodiesel. http://dieselhpr.com/learn-more. I ran a bunch of it out in California over Christmas and the stuff is amazing. ZERO downsides vs Dino diesel, only positive improvements. I've emailed Propel, they have no current plans for nationwide distribution .

B100 is available in Houston but i have never been tempted. I had read bioD dissolves build up from dyno diesel. Further, i had read to suddenly switch from petrolD to bioD was asking for it due to previous sentence. The jist i got from the article is if your going to run bio that you have to stick with it at a certain percentage to keep the buidups dissolved. I read a lot of negative attitude here abut bioD. I thought it had the higher cetane of 56. I had considered mixing it with petrolD to get the desired cetane of 51 to be equal with European diesel. Okay, i'm sure the pack of wolves will come after me now. HPR not an option here in Texas. One would think we could get it here in the refinery capital of the US. Then again, we aren't the nexus of environmentalism here, tee-hee. |

I'm guessing the reason Texas doesn't have it is because of the refineries. If I remember correctly Propel Diesel HPR comes from Singapore. Diesel HPR is great stuff!

Meijers is a store chain that carry gas - Oasis is near the airport and fuels big trucks / Semi's .. Now they all serve 20% biodiesel, this gas station I found happens to carry 5% (B5) haha - pack of wolves is fun

Cuda, I'll share my B20 experiences. In west Texas nearly all of the pumps have some form of bio diesel mix (91 octane premium incidentally as well). I go "out" there every year to camp in Big Bend National Park. Once you get to junction or further all the pumps are B20. I had to run B20 in my car only becasue there was no other choice. Didn't have any issues. I'd give HPR a whirl if it was available. |

Yep, D5 through me for a loop. I thought he meant 95% biodiesel. Seriously, i've read where people switched from petro to bio and had stuff clog. Not from the bio but from dissolving stuff that had formed from petro diesel. Not sure if there is a threshold concentration where this happens. I should go find my info before stirring up people here.

BioD does tend to swell seals and other things in the fuel system. I wouldn't run it if I had a choice. I'll stick to D2.

update:
I'm averaging 150 miles more than I have been on 20% BioDiesel with B5

HPR is not refined from crude oil which is why you dont have it even though you are near the refineries. HPR is basically like biodiesel just refined in a more advanced method.

Bio has 35 mj/kg, while diesel has 40. That's about a 10% difference in energy.
The difference between b20 and pure diesel is 0.20x0.10= 0.02 or 2% So, I don't see why it would give 100+miles extra on a tank difference between b20 and b5?? I wonder what else could be affecting this |
