New warning lights and issues
I just finished trouble-shooting a boost issue. After taking the car off the jack stands and going for a test drive I have these issues:
Red warning light of a car lift, door open warning, dash lights and blinkers don't work, keyfob doesn't work, and who knows what else. The car was on jack stands for 3 days and I needed to jump (actually a battery tender, not a jump) the car when I was done. Pretty much the same scenario when I did cbu cleaning a couple months ago. No issues then. Does something need to be reset in this car, or did I inadvertently disconnect/break something? maybe a fuse? |

Good question. I don't see a date stamped on it and the date stickers aren't punched. It's a 6 year Interstate battery.
No joy after having battery disconnected for over an hr. Windows also don't work. Two fault codes on instrument cluster: 1. Message error (lighting state. 0x21A). receiver instrument panel, transmitter footwell module. 2. Message error (footwell module. 0x4F0)/ receiver instrument panel. transmitter footwell module. One ABS fault code: 1. D35A/not present: No message (CAS 0x304). receiver DSC. Transmitter DAS One EGS 6HPTU fault: 1. CF35/not present: message from CAS. receiver EGS, transmitter CAS These are with engine off in diag mode, using Schwaben scanner. With engine running, I just get the two instrument cluster codes. |

Hmm...now I am worried your FRM is potentially toast. Were you doing any coding or programming this go around?
See here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=21114197 That thread also links another with some insight. |

Thanks, I'll read those. But no, all I did was notice my intercooler hose blew off giving me lots of smoke and no power. I took off all the panels to take off the engine cover so I could visualize everything from the top. After looking below I discovered the hose off.
That was it. Now all these issues. I was in denial that that issue was a sudden mysterious vacuum issue (and it wasn't). Now I'm in denial that this is another mysterious catastrophic ghost, although I'm looking at everything. |

Your FRM probably fried. The good thing is BMW has a reimbursement program to get it fixed. See if your car is covered here: http://www.bmw-rp.com/production/isg...nsf/submit.xsp

I wonder if having the battery tender connected (under hood) while the pos+ cable was still connected to the car may have caused this? |

Actually yes. I was using my scanner to check for codes after I finished with the boost hose, both with and without the engine running because I wasn't sure what was the best way. Now I know. Prob not a fully charged battery when scanning. I bet that is #1 on the scanning 101 thread.

As long as you keep receipts and records of repair, you should be able to be reimbursed. Low battery voltage can fry the FRM. That's all I know.

Yes, your FRM has corrupted it's EEprom which is a known bug in the FRM SW. If you don't have a tune, just bring it to your BMW dealer. If you do have a tune, PM me, I can help you with revived one.

Mik has my board now and is helping. Thanks for all the advice.
Question: Will my car still run without the FRM board in? Reason: There is a diesel (truck) drag race event this weekend and they will have a mobile dyno doing 3 runs for $100. I'd love to see what I'm pulling. |
