Dilemma - LM001 with LM32?
Have a little issue. Mounted my faithful Blizzak LM32's this yesterday and noticed that tread depth was too low for proper traction on two tires. LM32's are no longer sold. I see that the LM32's replacement is the LM001. I run a square 225/45R17 setup for winters.
I made sure to keep the good tread depth on the rears, which leaves the bad tread depth on the fronts. Here's the detail: Driver Front, 2.5 mm Passenger Front, 2.5 mm Driver Rear, 5 mm Passenger Rear, 5 mm Does anyone (looking at you Keith@TireRack!) have insight on whether I can run 2 LM001s in the same size as 2 LM32s? 5mm is perilously close to 4/32's of an inch, so this would be for one winter only. I would of course shave down the LM001s to 5mm to equalize. It seems possible since they are both directional. I wouldn't expect maximum capabilities out of them obviously, but I don't drive above 6/10s of capacity in the winter anyhow. I'm not prepared to buy 4 new tires this year if I can help it, so I'm hoping this compromise is doable. Thoughts?

I don't see why you would have any issues. You never want to run different tires side to side, but front to back can be done. You just have to be aware that they're different tires, but since they're essentially the same thing, I don't think you would feel any difference dynamically.

5mm diameter difference is less than 1 percent, absolutely nothing to worry about, even if AWD.
Make sure to put the newer tires on the rear so you won't accidentally oversteer in the snow. If you have a tire shop put them on, they'll do it.

Thanks everyone! After thinking about it, I realized that I actually do need to get four new tires or else I'm spending even more next year. Appreciate your insights!
