Low engine power light
So today I was pushing it through the gears and I got a low power light.
Turned car off and on it was fine and went. I've read it could be to do with the ports being clogged up.. Just driving home thrn I'll plug the Carly in and see what's what on there. should add.. 335 50k. had fuel pump and waterpump last year Last edited by jhandy2; 01-31-2018 at 11:06 AM.. |

Mine was the same and ended up being the 30ff low boost code. I am currently waiting to get it back from the dealer where I bought it. They are repairing or replacing a turbo due to a bad wastegate.
It could easily be a boost leak though so check there is boost in the system. A common way of repairing the fault is replacing the vacuum hoses but unfortunately that didn't fix mine. |

Well, that didn't take long
Could be so many things & it can be a long process getting these kind of issues sorted but not always. Get the codes read, it helps if you have a friendly indy guy or buy yourself a code reader. As you've just bought it from a dealership & paid a premium take it back & find out how good their warranty is.

Yeah and you always have your consumer rights depending on how long it is since you bought it.
Hopefully it's nothing major, my local Indy was a great help and gave me a lot more to go back to the dealer with. |

It drives fine all day everyday done 500 miles since Saturday lol. It's just when it gets abused it throws it's toys out. Calling bmw later when I'm home. I'd rather continue the bmw history than use where I brought it from |

Yeah mine will very occasionally throw a engine management light under hard acceleration, i think a lot of 335is do. On mine I suspect a fuel pressure sensor but it doesn't do it often enough for me to be overly bothered about it just yet.
Unless you have or are going to get a bmw extended warranty I'd recommend you find a good Indy. Most of us on here have had less than good service from main dealers. They will charge you around £120 just to read the fault memory

Yeah you'll get the 3100 anytime the engine looses boost, the 2a87 may well be the vanos solenoid

According to him it's not geared to do so.. It's about 3500rpm. I laughed at him and said he didn't know what he was in about 😂 and ended the call. |

It’s likely your vanos solenoid. I had the exact same issue on my N53 330i, except mine started misfiring after across multiple cylinders, when car restarted it was fine again. It threw no codes except multiple misfires with me and also once threw both camshaft sensors codes, Also had lumpy acceleration thereafter on the most recent occurrence which didn’t resolve with clearing the codes.
It always happened on hard acceleration / under load accompanied by limp mode I cleaned my vanos solenoids 2 days ago and swapped them around and issue seems resolved fingers crossed The vanos solenoids can be difficult to diagnose and don’t always present clearly but The fact yours has thrown a vanos code I’m oretty sure it will be that, it’s the most likely cause, if it isn’t then other fault that can present with a vanos code is camshaft sensors. Similarly camshaft sensor codes can actually be the vanos. There’s a few DIYs on how to Clean VANOS solenoids inc on pelican parts a good one I used, it’s how to change the solenoids but in first instance just clean. 30 min job, basic and easy, just don’t drop anything into the engine. Clean with electrical contact cleaner / MAF cleaner, let dry properly and then SWAP them round when reinstalling (both solenoids are exact same parts). Quick easy and essentially free to do, i’d do this first before anything else. |
