Device was fixed thanks to Bob and tune has been applied to the car.

The issue was - the software got corrupted during the update. The resolution was to remove app from the computer, install it again (flash drive) and update the app and the handheld device. This time around, the update process completed and the issue went away. Afterwards I was able to apply the tune to the car without any issue.

Review of milvs coming up in few days after the car adapts to the tune.

+1 Awaiting the review! Catless headers and MILVS are the final frontier for my car for performance upgrades.

A PM conversation-
Quote:
Hi Marty,
Following the milvs threads since day 1. Have a question on machining accuracy of the mod. Not searching by any means what exactly do you do to the stock part, just curious if you measure several units at the point you machine them, what kind of variation are you getting in thousands of an inch?
Thanks

Part of the accuracy is BMW themselves. The pieces are 'die cast' of quality metal. Every piece is exactly the same from BMW. Zero tolerance difference. All 10+ million that I estimate that they have made.

My machinist tolerances are less than 0.001", less than a thousandth of an inch.

Interesting is that the 'used' supports that I give him to machine are slightly 'harder' than the new parts. He has to set the mill slightly different for the 'used' parts.

The machining is very different than machining aluminum.
In my machinist words 'you have to have been doing this a long time to know the details in how to machine the part correctly and accurately'.

And to think that I thought I would buy a $2000 home mill and machine them myself. Thank goodness I found my machinist.
I would not make the MILVs available without him.

5 areas are machined and the oil 'groove' has to be machined.

I hope that helps,

Marty

Lemme know how to get a set of MILVs.

Won't get to install them for a few months and I'll need to order the add-on tune for them from BPC but it'll be worth the wait, I think.

At least it'll provide dyno info for the following config

PI w/CAI and scoops
RevMotorsports coupler
WCRR bored TB
3IM
Supersprint headers, coated and wrapped
Supersprint secondary delete pipes
Welded Burns merge to 3" thinwall 304SS exhaust
Burns 4.5"x17" glass packed single stage race muffler just aft of merge
Burns 6.25"x17" glass packed two stage race muffler/resonantor in stock muffler location
Turndown tip

Mine arrived this week-thanks CM for your research and making this a reality.

VC gasket just removed and was not a jolly swell time.

Went fine, no blunders but PITA. Gasket and hardware expected Monday.
Have to have MILVS installed by then. Really excited. Full recipe BPC tune, soon.

For the people DIY tuning these, have you adjusted anything in the VE table? For the N55 we have one table listing rpm and you plug in a VE value. Stock is 93 across the board i think. Wondering if anyone has tested changing this table with MILVs.

There's no VE table on the N52 - well, there sort of is, but not really in the traditional sense. It's basically airflow over valve lift vs crankshaft position.

You need to alter the valvetronic maps of course, and maybe tweak the AFR target maps. I usually extend the airflow table mentioned above because by default it ends at 9.6mm of lift, but it's pretty linear so you can just scale that up to 11mm.

The N55 probably uses VE because the MAP sensor is a much larger part of the engine control, where on the N52 it's assumed to be 100kpa most of the time and is more of a sanity check.

Thank, only reason I ask is I don't think the currently available N55 table is the only one needed to be adjusted. Haven't found the angle vs valve lift table as seen with the N52. So wanted to look into other available tables that might need changing.

Currently I'm at the same boost and fuel consumption after milvs and the one table change.

To be fair, I don't expect most tuners to just give out the information.

I agree, I mean that's how they make money. Figured I'd ask if any of the self tuners had any input.

Havent looked ar the N55 much yet, mostly because i cant flash it (without physical access anyway).

It is different from the MSx70 and MSx80 DMEs, but presumably the basic functions of valvetronic are similar. I think we have a Damos somewhere, I'll take a look.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the table names are different between the N52 and N55. I have a document in german that lists all the functional table names and none of them match the N52 table names I've seen.

Got these bad boys today! Thanks again Marty for the fast shipping and smooth transaction. I'll send my returns back once these go in. Baseline dyno is booked for Wednesday. Aiming to install these this weekend if the weather warms up, along with the 3SIM and Bimmer Labs tune. Then get headers and do a final "after" dyno in May.
