Serious transmission issues???!!
I have a 2006 325i that worked so well for a very long time, it has near 190k miles on it, 2 weeks ago the car had no errors everything was perfectly fine , yesterday I encountered my car not turning on so I unplugged the battery plugged it back in perfectly fine , I drive about 50 miles out into town then boom dashboard lights up like a Christmas tree , service engine light red gear with exclamation point ect, i’m driving on the freeway about 85 mph (don’t arrest me please lol) the gear shows up all of a sudden I quickly drop speed and won’t accelerate the car is basically in neutral so I find the nearest exit and swearve into an empty dirt road. Luckily I have an obd2 so I checked for codes and out of nowhere 10 codes pop up!!! I usually have one for a fuel leak detection pump which I just haven’t gotten around to, so 9 unfamiliar codes pop up P0015- exhaust camshaft position timing over retarded (bank 1) P0012- intake camshaft position timing over (retarded bank 1) P0700- transmission control system (mil request) P0705- transmission range sensor circuit (PRNDL input) P17E1- ratio monitoring clutch A P2402- leak detection pump circuit high Another P2402 Another P0700 Another P0705 Another P17E1 Now I had to leave my car at my grandfathers which he ofcourse throws to my face only but American. I love my car it’s never given me problems I don’t think I’d ever buy a non bimmer, things just happen. So when I turn it on if it does at all it’ll drive 20mph max then only rev up and die once the red gear of death shows up. When it’s on period it sounds like blades chopping at each other metal to metal. Some times when I press drive it goes into reverse or neutral turns into park ect. And other times it turns on it only revs when you use drive. Also note on the ride down to town I heard a loud whistle coming from the car like an actual whistle blowing. Anyone have any idea what a problem could be? I’m scared ima have to replace the whole transmission in which case would have more value than the car |

What has your fluid maintenance issue been?
Likely you need to have the valve body replaced OR maybe it could just be the sensor that is mentioned. |

I have an oil leak, my radiator bleeds a little coolant from the bleeder but was just filled, and I was thinking I needed transmission fluid because of the gear shifting causing a rough idle before I could even check my car commits suicide:/

How old is the battery? I have seen weird things happen with a bad/ low battery or alternator. When was the last time the trans was serviced or checked?

Funny you say this, the battery gave the technicians weird signals, they said it was low and that I need to drive to charge it, but I said I drive a lot and they were a bit thrown off, and as embarrassing as it may seem I’ve had the car two years and I’ve never had the transmission serviced

Did you buy this car brand new? I would keep it because the E90 is a great car, you will not find another one just like it. If you owned this car since new or purchased at a very low mileage (CPO) I would 100% keep it. Even if it costs $2,000 to repair or replace the transmission which would technically "total" the car since the resale value is only about $3,000 I would do it anyway. As long as the car doesn't have other major issues and the transmission is the only problem, I'd say $2,000 is still money well spent. Because, what used car can you buy with $2,000 that will give you the same driving pleasure and memories that this E90 325i will? None! Also don't even think about getting an F30, they drive like shit. I have 2011 328i, my gf has 2013 (F30) 328i and its terrible. I hate it. Not to mention, if you get a new or cpo F30 you will most likely have car payments again. Best of luck!

+1 on the battery. Mine did everything short of a seizure when the battery was on its way out. I don't know if 2006 would have the same IBS on the battery, but that's always an option as well if it does.

So it turns out some dodo bird, didn’t properly bleed the radiator causing a heat bubble to enter the transmission fluid hose somehow and it busted meaning I had no fluid which is why my baby went into limp mode. The mechanics want to charge 800$ to replace the radiator and the hoses as well as filling the new radiator with coolant and drop the pan and put in new tranny fluid. Do you guys think I should risk the 800$? There is a chance the car still won’t work if I overdid the transmission which my total drive time spread out within a couple of days was 15 minutes because the car kept dying(protecting itself). Would you say it’s fried or should I give it a shot and spend the money ?
