15% on all windows, 5% on moon roof, 5% strip on windshield (black interior)... Anyone with experience think that something like 70%-80% tint on the windshield would help keep things cooler when the suns beaming on front? Windshield tint is illegal in Maine but I still burn my ass when I get in my car lol..

Here's what I believe to be in the 20-30% range. Previous owner had it done. Looks nice nonetheless!

It will make a huge difference if it's a quality or ceramic film. There are several kinds like Llumar air blue 80 that look pretty much clear but block tons of heat. I have 35% on my full windshield on my 4runner and it's the best mod I've ever done to any car I've owned. Surprisingly it's not hard to see out of at all but it does look quite dark from outside. It's pretty common in my area (rednecks in Tennessee lol) so cops have never given me any trouble for it.

Sweet! I definitely think I’m gonna do it then. And I was gonna get a nice high quality ceramic tint if I did. But I’ll have to give my tint shop a call and see what they can do! Idk how they’ll get around my inspection sticker though! Lol

Just an update... got the windshield tint installed. Went with 70%. SOOOO much better my car stays a lot cooler in the front where the sun use to come through and heat up the front seats. Not gonna post a pic cause it’s barely noticeable lol

The PO had the tint applied, 27% I believe. It's been a longtime since I've had tinted windows and it's growing on me especially since it's pushing 95 the past two weeks.

I can tell you right now, that's not 27%, kind of looks like its not tinted at all. I have 20% and you can definitely tell a difference.

Yeah that is probably closer to 70%. Tint percentages work opposite the way you would think... it's rated on VLT (visual light transmittance). Which means 0% transmits no light and 100% transmits all the visual light.

I doubt anyone will be able to tell 70 vs 50... I have 50% on the front windows of my beater SUV that I use for chores... you can barely tell the windows are tinted and it has 5% on the back windows.

Think of VLT like decibels but flipped, meaning the difference between 20-30% VLT is much more significant than 50-70%. As you drop VLT percentages the effect it has is essentially multiplied.

There are plenty of almost clear ceramic films that block tons of heat.

I personally wouldn't go more than 80% on the windshield with 15% all around, unless you live somewhere it is commonplace. In your car right now, the windshield is really the only source of light for the interior. If you cut the VLT by much, cops passing you are going to be able to tell the windshield is tinted.

If your car is still hot with that much tint on it, it's time to start looking into a ceramic film, it's gonna cost more but is worth it if temp reduction is what you are chasing. Carbon film barely blocks heat, it really just cuts light transmittance, which will help bring the temp down but doesn't actually block the thermal radiation. You can feel the difference if you were to take a heat gun and heat up the window from the outside and put your hand on the inside... with ceramic film, the temp on your hand is significantly cooler. Granted I have a lighter colored vehicle, but my black interior stays nice and cool even in 100+ (32-36 degree weather.)

Yeah but the police have meters here to measure and they carry them with them. I got stopped by my highway police the other day because of exhaust and he told me to roll my windows up (since he saw my rear dark tint) and wasn't happy when saw my windows were legal. He was trying to give me a ticket. The bastard.

I double-checked the small sticker on the window and it's marked 27%.

Don't take this the wrong way but that isn't correct... they rated it wrong or labeled it wrong, unless some film companies use opposite rating values... But that wouldn't make sense since it's standardized...

VLT stands for how much visual light is transmitted through... 27% VLT means 73% of the light is blocked. It would make more sense that the 27% number labeled is actually referring to light blocked (reflected)... but that is opposite how the standardization works.

I actually ended up tinting the windshield 75%. Just got pulled over yesterday in the worst county for tint in Maine and the cop didn't even notice. So I'm not gonna worry about it. Even my inspector didn't notice lol. The difference is subtle but still makes a difference in the sun.

My routine for getting pulled over is fun though.... both front windows down and turn my car off because it's a deleted diesel

Took off the nasty tint on this car. Same with Vinyl. Deciding whether I am going to leave it fish bowl or re-tint. I was thinking 35% ceramic.

For those of you who have tinted your windshield: is it worth it? What percent did you go with? I'm debating on getting my windshield tinted, I already have 20% ceramic around.

I went with 70% on the windshield, 100% worth it. Not sure how the Idaho summers are but where I am, beaming hot sun on leather seats is not a good combination. The interior is noticeably cooler and my guests no longer burn their asses on the leather!

I have 5% in the back, 15% in the front and a 5% windshield visor that goes down to the bottom of my mirror. My car being Jet Black surely doesn't help heat in the summer. However since tinting it, my black leather seats have never burned my back and the seat belt has never branded me. The steering wheel doesn't get hot either. I live in a town where 27% is the max, have yet to get pulled over for the year it's been on there.
