no, but I want one. $500 is not an option for an alarm that I want to pay. I will see if I can get it cheaper and install it myself and have it initialized by the dealer. I am hoping it will be around $300.

In the UK, all new Cars have to have Alarm fitted, so not an option. Thanks to all those Joy riders in the ninetees. I opted for a Tracker system as well, slightly lower insurance, peace of mind.

I don't understand why BMW does not put an alarm in on all their cars!! VW's have it so why can't BMW do it?

just had mine installed including tax for $470 cdn. says it took them 2 hours, so subtracting the taxes and labor, the alarm itself should only cost you around $290. they have a special here in toronto to install alarms here for $410 not including tax

Did you install the alarm through the dealership? And is it the Custom BMW Alarm? Cuz I am picking my E90 in May and planning to tell Town and Country to install the alarm when I hand them my licence plate (since they need to get me my sticker, and I would be picking up the car a few days after that ..etc) and guess the installation could include when they re-check the E90 ... Where is this special?

Honestly .. I think the Alarm only gives me a Peace of Mind. Somehow, if they are trying to steal your car, they have to steal your keys too. Cuz the power to the engine is totally cut off. The Alarm will sound, and they still cannot steal the car. But again, its a peace of mind knowing that someone will hear the sound of the alarm if they break your window... etc. I want it anyways

Yes. x2
I had my tires rotated this morning, and they used floor jacks. As soon as they started jacking the car up the alarm went off. Just nice to know it works.

im not sure if i think its worth it. personally. think about what could really happen to your car, and then think of the alarm will solve it.
most "profesional" theives know how to cut the power to the alarm, or the cut the siren. they could potentially get it on a towtruck before you come out and find them. someone could key your car, throw something heavy at it and drive away, the alarm wouldnt really help anything like that. besides EVERYTIME the alarm goes off, you have to drop everything you are doing and run out to your car. everytime. or else whats the point. this is just my opinion. obviously like normal, im sure most people would disagree. I was SUPRISED when i found out my car didnt have an alarm, and i was disappointed my SA didnt offer it to me, or let me know its an option or anything. But im glad its not standard, and that it is an option, because if it was not an option, then everyone would have to get it, and obviously pay the extra money, instead of having the choice. i like choices.

OEM Alarm -with or without
Sorry, but just wanted to clarfiy...
Since e90's don't come with the OEM alarm installed, does that mean that the car would cut power to the engine when you shut off the car? On the other hand, getting the OEM alarm would give you the following: - motion detection - audible alarm -that's it? Thanks! |

Well, I was told by BMW parts that having an alarm is recommended (for safety ...etc...). But I was also told that it is NOT necessary, that is why it is an option. For the engine part, YES when you turn the car off, the engine is SHUT OFF TOTALLY. Without the PUSH IN CAR KEY, the car just will NOT work. This is what I was told. So, having an alarm will give you audible alarm - YES. Motion detection - NOT SURE. You can call your dealership to find out more, I am sure they will be happy to assist you.
