go look on 4x4 shop Canada's website. I don't think the 625 is worth the upgrade. It benchmarks the same

I just went back to that site and the CCC/CIC OEM replacement is $549 with no mention of anything new coming in June for the E90.

aha, I have an E90 so doesn't apply to me. I just don't want to buy a piece of junk that I'm going to regret. From my reading between here and XDA it seems like they're all coming from China. The only problem is that when you look on Aliexpress, there's so many different vendors, I don't know which one to choose.

Thanks guys. I have a 2008 E93 09/07 production so hopefully I can swap in the CIC controller. Even if I have to code it. If you recall any way I can find out more about that please let me know.

I am guessing that since it connects to the old radio I would still have to use a CCC controller but figured I would ask if you know. P.S. I live in Kenner (brah) and was born in 1970. I assume that may be what the 1970 is in your signature?
Except for some very early CCC systems (I believe 2007) you can swap in a CIC controller for use with a CCC system. It's a direct swap. Do a little digging and you can find out which CCC systems it doesn't work with. You will need the center console trim panel from a CIC car, of course.

I made the swap on my 2008 e90, though I'm using it with my Android head unit and Carplay almost exclusively.
"though I'm using it with my Android head unit and Carplay almost exclusively"

And using it in this way, making the switch to the new controller ends up offering no advantage, correct?

I'm asking because I'd be interested in making this upgrade, but am doing the same thing, using CarPlay 100% of the time on Android head unit.

So I’m really interested in this upgrade and I was about to purchase from AVIN but decided to check the forums first glad I did. From reading all the post I’m getting that the sound quality just isn’t there even through the CarPlay interface ? Unless someone has had better results.

That looks like what I needed to know. I am going to get a CIC controller to test out.

Until the Autoplay folks figure out to hijack button controls, it’s benefit is limited. The “nav” button will take you directly to whatever nav app you have designated (including autoplay/CarPlay), while the menu button functions the same as the ccc controller. I’m having issues with my JB4 app right now, but when it was working, it was convenient to go back and forth between CarPlay and JB4. Nav button for CarPlay, back button to jb4 (once loaded and running).

Wondering if its worth buying 8.1 or waiting for the next iteration...(that said, my last aftermarket was a Dynavin v4 for my e46 M)

I'm super happy with my unit. I've routed audio through a USB DAC and the sound quality is the same if not better than playing mp3s on the idrive side with my iPod classic

I purchased the CIC 7.1 unit from AVIN, and I cannot get the holes in the bezel to line up with the factory located holes. I've read through the thread and noticed other people have encountered this same issue. I have the monitor pushed in as far as I can applying pressure, and I still can't get it lined up enough for the screws to grab ahold. Some people have mentioned trimming the bezel to get the holes to line up. Any information on exactly what you trimmed and how you went about that?

I had the same exact issue with my 07 335i. Just installed the unit yesterday and could get the right side lined up enough to get the screw lined up but not the left . Turned out after pushing and cursing for an hour I pulled the unit out and could see on the bottom Left corner where the unit was touching from me pushing on it. Got out the dremel and cut that section out It was small but enough for me to get the screws in. 4x4 swore up and down the unit would fit .....it did after I trimmed inside the Dash.

I appreciate the info. AVIN has been less than responsive, and when they do respond they just keep sending me links to their support page, which I’ve already read through.

I like the looks of the unit, but overall I don’t know that I could recommend it. My sound through Bluetooth is not good. It’s tolerable, but not good. If I use my phone as a hotspot and run the Spotify app from the unit, it sounds great. I guess that’s what I’ll do most of the time. I’m having an issue with getting Apple CarPlay to work, so I’m still trying to hash that out. It’s sounding like I am going to have to do some trimming to get it to mount properly, and I’m not a fan of that. AVIN customer service responded maybe once every 2-3 days after resending requests multiple times for support while troubleshooting some issues.
To be fair I’m not very handy when it comes to stuff like this, so maybe my questions and issues seemed silly to their support team. Advertising it as simple plug and play and OEM fitment hasn’t turned out to be the case for me.

No I get it no problem getting you the info. After getting the install done I’ll have to say I do like the unit. It worked perfectly with my aftermarket rear camera and the speed, look, and functionality works for me . BT sound quality is definitely bad but I primarily use CarPlay and my logic 7 sounds great. What issues are you having with CarPlay?

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me with my frustration of getting the backup camera to work with this head unit. I've read through the entire 19 pages of this thread and tried various different ways to connect the head unit to the camera but all I see is "No Signal". I've tested the wires to see if 12 volts are running through them which they are. I even tested a separate backup camera and had the same "No Signal" issue.

Besides the backup camera, the only other issue I have is both USB connections only charge my phone. When I try to play music through them it says "USB Not Connected" even though it is charging through the head unit. How can I fix this to allow USB playback?

I been trying to get this thing to work for the past 3 months.

Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.

I'm about to go with 4x4 Shop. While I agree that most of these units probably come from the same place it seems like 4x4 grooms and combs to get the best of what is readily available and that has value. They also offer a lot of support with installation. I bought a car with no NAV so any screen will be a major upgrade. I think I will get PX6 Android 8.1 with WIFI capability, Carpla, Backup Camera and Anti-Glare Screen. I hate that aftermarket controller, I wonder if an OEM one would work with this system even though my car did not come with iDrive.

@toddyus Any possible way for you to help me out? I followed your exact directions and the head unit still shows "No Signal" no matter how I wire it. If there is a better way to contact you directly please let me know.

So just installed a px6 version in my 335d. Very difficult to get everything back in to place with the new harness behind the pro nav unit and the holes on the screen not quite lining up. Same problems others have mentioned really.
Pleased I don't need to plug into the aux port, the sound just worked.

What I really don't like, the locked down Bluetooth functionality. Only allowed for the phone in phone app? The Bluetooth menu in settings doesn't exist...
Is there any additional app that can be in installed that restores functionality? Then I'll be able to connect to my Bluetooth adaptor for torque etc.

Also, any way to make the music tab go straight to Spotify or dab? It's easy enough to set the navigation tab but couldn't see anything for music.
